UMN Fall Tournament [LONE STAR] (POSTPONED)

Post by BenWeiner27 »

The University of Minnesota Quizbowl team is excited to announce the UMN Fall Tournament on Saturday, October 24th, 2020. The tournament will be an online high school mirror of the LONE STAR question set. This tournament is distinct from the long running Gopher Invitation (GINVIT) tournament that will be held virtually on December 5th.

Question Set
LONE STAR is a high school regular difficultly house-written question set. This means that the set will be very similar to last year's WAIT and RAFT sets, (both of which were mirrored in Minnesota) in terms of question matter and difficulty. Additionally, this set will be of comparable difficulty to a NAQT Invitational Series (IS) set, which are commonly used in Minnesota.

Eligibility
This tournament is open to any school in Minnesota as well as schools in Western Wisconsin that traditionally have played Minnesota tournaments. Teams that are not located within that region are free to inquire about an exception to play this mirror; however, any authority regarding resolving such a request rests solely with the Lone Star editing team.

Payment
The tournament will take place entirely online and have a fee of $60/team. Payment will be accepted either in the form of Venmo electronic payment or mailed check. Checks should be made out to “University of Minnesota Quizbowl Team” and mailed to: UMN Quizbowl Team Student Activities Office 300 Washington Ave. SE Minneapolis, MN 55455.

There will be a maximum of 6 players per team. We recommend that teams that have more than 4 players consider splitting into multiple teams.
Due to the large amount of planning and setup for online tournaments, any team cancelling after 11:59 PM CT on Wednesday, October 21st, will be expected to pay full tournament dues.

Registration
To register please fill out the following form: https://forms.gle/bjFTRcgG83gMTbvVA. There will be an initial field cap of 16 teams that we will expand if there is interest.

Feel free to contact suacb AT umn DOT edu for any concerns that you may have. We hope to see you on October 24th!

Due to scheduling conflicts with the MQBA sponsored TRIVIA tournament run on IS-194A, this tournament has been indefinitely postponed. There may be some attempt to run it later in the year or it may be fully cancelled.
