Third Annual Porter-Gaud Quiz Bowl Tournament

Post by [email protected] »

Porter-Gaud School is an Independent School in Charleston, South Carolina. Founded in 1867, the Quiz Bowl/Academic Team was established in the spring of 2016. Our Third Annual Tournament Field attracts many of the top teams, public and private, in South Carolina; for our online format, we have reduced the cap to 20 teams. Any South Carolina team is invited to register (should your team from NC or GA wish to attend, please contact the Tournament Director).

Saturday 20 February 2021. Registration due by Monday 15 February.
Packet: NAQT IS-197.

This Tournament is scheduled to be online, using Zoom, with the chat serving as the 'buzzer'. Therefore, all players will need a computer (or phone) to differentiate for Toss-up questions. Both competing teams will 'move' to Breakout Rooms for rounds. A reliable internet connection is required to play. All other rules are similar to a normal tournament.

Seeding will be done using However, tournament directors will ensure that Pools are not populated by the same school. Round One takes place in the morning. After the lunch break, Championship and Consolation Rounds will be determined by Pool victors seeded by cumulative score followed by the next highest-scoring teams across all pools. These general principles will be applied; specifics will be contingent on the number of teams. NB, Porter-Gaud A and B are part of the field; as with other teams, a C may be added-- only after other teams' requests for a third team has been honored. P-G player/students help score games but may not score any game when a P-G team is playing.

Schools may register two teams, A and B. Any school wishing to register more than one team must staff a reader (for a discount); additionally, a team may provide a scorer if desired (for a discount). Three teams may be registered if space allows (you may enter a team provisionally). Pricing is listed on the NAQT site.

We look forward to welcoming you, albeit virtually. Please send any inquiry to the Head Coach: Chris Greenwell
