BAIT III (Online) at Belmont High School (4/3/2021) (IS-199)

Post by Quetzalcoatl »

Belmont High School is proud to announce the third annual Belmont Academic Invitational Tournament (BAIT III). The tournament will occur on April 3rd, 2021, and will be played on IS-199.

Tournament

The tournament will start at 9:00 AM EST. We will be using Zoom for this tournament. Teams should be logged on by 8:45 to make sure games start by 9:00. We plan to end around 6:30 PM, although that is just an estimate. This tournament will run on standard Quizbowl rules. Teams of 4 with up to 2 alternates; 20 tossups and bonuses per untimed round; 5 point negs; 15 point powers; no computational math. The field cap is currently 18. For more details on general NAQT Quizbowl rules, please go here: https://www.naqt.com/rules/

In addition, we are restricting registration to only New England and Tri-State (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey). People not from those areas who still wish to join may contact us, and we will see if there is sufficient space to accommodate them.

Registration
To register, please register here: https://www.naqt.com/registration/field ... t_id=12248

In terms of fees:
$70 for each team from a school
-$20 for each experienced moderator
-$15 for new teams (Applies to any program that has not played a pyramidal Quizbowl tournament since 9/1/19)
+$10 for cancelations a week before the tournament (Any team(s) that cancels on or after March 27th will need to pay 10 extra dollars)
Minimum fee for teams: $15

All discounts (not including the cancellation fee) are on a total cost basis. So if any of the discounts apply to your team, apply those only to the first team you sign up for, not for every team if you choose to send more than one.

Please mail out a check by the tournament date. Checks should be made out to Belmont High School and should include “Belmont Quiz Bowl” written on the memo line. Details regarding where to mail the check will be sent out with the invoice. Additionally, we will be accepting payment through Venmo (details about that will also go out with invoices).

Prizes:
Special prizes will also be awarded to the top 10 players (determined by PPG after prelims).

Staff:
Anyone interested in staffing for this tournament may contact [email protected] to let us know that you are interested. As stated with the discounts, any school that sends a staffer will receive a $20 discount per staffer, and any staffer who isn’t affiliated with a school attending will be compensated $20 for their efforts.

Code of Conduct:
We here at Belmont take the cheating and comfortability of our participants very seriously. All players, participants, coaches, spectators, and anyone else involved must adhere to the PACE Code of Conduct (http://www.pace-nsc.org/nsc-code-of-conduct/). Players who experience or witness any sort of misconduct should report to this form (tinyurl.com/qbmisconduct) and contact any tournament staff (alternatively you can email [email protected]). We will then make sure that the perpetrator(s) is immediately removed from the tournament setting and that proper punishment is dealt.

In addition, we take cheating very seriously as well. Players will be required to have their cameras on during the tournament, and any allegations of cheatings should be reported to the tournament directors so that a proper investigation can be made. Players will also be required to type out the PACE honor pledge in the tournament server before the tournament (https://www.pace-nsc.org/pace-honor-pledge/).

Contact:
If you have any questions please reach out to either [email protected] or [email protected].

We hope that you will join us on April 3rd!

Best regards,
Nathan Sheffield and Seiyoung Jang

We're pleased to announce that BAIT III has been awarded platinum certification by PACE! This means that the top 25% of teams in our tournament (rounded up to the nearest integer) will qualify for PACE-NSC!
