2021 Moristown-Beard Spring Invitational

Post by Schietroma10 »

Hello All!

It is with great pleasure that I am able to announce the second annual Morristown-Beard Invitational!

The tournament will be taking place on Saturday, April 10, with teams signing onto Discord at 8:00am and gameplay commencing at 8:15am. We will be using the IS-202A question set. Moreover, we will use standard timing rules with 20 tossups and no timed halves. There will not be computational math bonuses, nor computational math tossups. Live stats will be posted throughout the tournament with a link provided on the Discord.

Much like last year we will have a field cap of 32 teams. Though we have open registration, and anticipate this year will bring more geographic diversity to the field since we are online, it goes without saying that schools participating in another tournament using the IS-202A question set are ineligible to participate.

Those familiar with our tournament will know that we operate with a unique format that we believe offers a new perspective on Quiz Bowl. There will be 4 groups of 8 teams in our Preliminary Rounds, with each team playing 7 games in the morning, with an hour break for lunch at 1:30 pm. From there, the top four teams in each group will move on to the Championship Bracket, whilst the bottom four teams will move into the Consolation Bracket. The playoffs are Single-Elimination, which add an extra sense of intensity and drama to the tournament. That said, it is essential that teams continue playing throughout the afternoon, as the final standings are determined by the final round of matches. The brackets will progressively bring teams comparable in skill into matches together, with much still to play for with various NAQT event qualifications on the line. There will be 4 matches in the afternoon, with the final round finishing at 5:30 pm. For any questions about format, please contact the Tournament Director, there will be live brackets posted on the Discord throughout the tournament.

In accordance with NAQT rules, all players must have cameras on at all times in the Discord. There is a zero tolerance policy for cheating.

$60 per team
$10 off per additional team
$10 off per experienced staff member

For payment, have a check made out to Morristown-Beard School sent to 70 Whippany Road, or contact the Tournament Director for e-payment methods.

You can register at https://www.naqt.com/registration/field ... t_id=12235

We hope that you can join us this April for our second Morristown-Beard Invitational!
