TAILS Midwest Mirror (MS) (3/13/21)

Post by gmaiorana22 »

We at Solon High School are pleased to announce a mirror of TAILS for middle school teams from the Midwest! TAILS is a middle school/easy high school set, and more information on it can be found here.

This tournament is primarily for middle school teams from the following states: Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, and West Virginia. If teams from other states would like to seek an exception to attend this mirror, we may be able to accommodate that request, though teams in the states listed will take priority. If your team is seeking a regional exception, please fill out the corresponding field in the registration form.

The initial field cap for this mirror will be 12 teams, though if there is significant interest and staff it may expand to 18 or 24.

Date and Time
The tournament will take place on Saturday, March 13, 2021. The tournament will be held online on Discord, starting at 9 AM EST. The goal is to have each team play five prelim rounds before lunch, which should happen around 1 PM. Each team will play a minimum of 8 rounds of 20 tossup/bonus cycles in total.

Eligibility
Every team must be composed of players from the same school. Teams must consist of players in grade 8 or below, and no more than 6 players will be allowed on each team.

Fees
Pricing will be $60 per team for both the middle school and high school divisions. If a team consists of 2 or fewer players, the fee is $40. Payments may be given by PayPal or Venmo.

Registration
This form can be used to register teams, and this form can be used to sign up to staff. Staffers will be paid at least $25, or community service hours if requested. Staffers should have experience moderating quiz bowl tournaments, and we will have a staffer training session before the tournament to ensure well-moderated games.

Rules
We are using standard ACF rules. Players will have 5 seconds at the end of a tossup to answer, 8 seconds after a buzz to answer, and 8 seconds at the end of a bonus part to answer. This will be strictly enforced.

In addition, each player should have their camera on at all times. If there is reason to suspect a player of cheating, the tournament directors will handle the situation accordingly.

Cheating and Misconduct
All players should follow the PACE Code of Conduct. Misconduct, cheating, and other forms of misbehavior are not tolerated and we reserve the right to remove players if they commit such acts. If you feel that someone is violating any aspect of the Code of Conduct, please reach out to the TD or a staffer. If you feel threatened or unsafe in any way at this tournament, please reach out to the TD or a staffer, or fill out the quiz bowl misconduct form.

If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me. My email address is [email protected], and my Discord username is beter#6031. I look forward to seeing you there!
