Hey y'all! This is one of my most exciting forums posts yet.

I am thrilled to announce that I will be hosting an invitation-only national high school mirror of WORKSHOP on May 1st, 2021! This tournament is intended to be a sort of “pre-nats” event for top teams in the country. I, Jordan Davidsen (Yale) will be the Tournament Director. Graham Cope (UF) and Joshua Nwakoby (MIT) will serve as Assistant TDs. I am considering adding 1-2 more Assistant TDs. Please contact me if you are interested.

Eligibility
The tournament is, once again, INVITE ONLY, meaning only teams that are given a bid by the tournament director will be eligible to play. The tournament will start with 36 bids, and additional bids will be given out depending on how many teams accept them. The tournament directing team will be determining who gets the bids, with minimal outside influence. Do not message the tournament directing team in an attempt to receive a bid. UPDATE: Due to team interest the field has been cut down to 24 teams. The field has now been filled.

Schedule and Format
The tournament will be run on Discord. All players will be expected to use video and show one hand on that camera during the tournament unless they have received an exception from the tournament director. The tournament will start at 10AM EST.

Conduct
Players will be required to follow the PACE Code of Conduct. All misconduct will be reported to the Tournament Director and all relevant officials, which could lead to disqualification from the tournament and removal from the quizbowl community. Players will be made aware of the quizbowl misconduct form as well as other resources for combatting misconduct. In addition, players, staffers, spectators, and associated personnel will be required to follow the WORKSHOP Code of Conduct.

I will also note that playing without a camera and exhibiting behaviors suggestive of cheating will place you under extreme suspicion.

Fees
The entry fee for this tournament will be $90. Teams can receive a discount of $20 by providing an affiliated staff member. All profits that are generated from this tournament will be donated to the Marshall Project, a non-profit that is committed to producing high-quality journalism that advocates for criminal justice reform.

Registration
Teams will be sent a Google Form to fill out when they are offered a bid. Please respond to your bid by filling out the form at your earliest convenience.

Staff
Staffers will be paid $40 for staffing this tournament. If you would like to staff, fill out this form! Staffers will be expected to scorekeep and moderate a match by themselves at a good speed. Staff members can request to donate their payment to the Marshall Project is desired.

Thank you and please reach out to [email protected] if you have any questions!
