DNE V @ Del Norte High School (01/08/2022)

Post by hannahchen »

Del Norte Quizbowl will proudly be hosting our fifth annual Del Norte Edgehog (DNE V) winter tournament on January 8, 2022. This is a closed tournament, so each team must be composed of players from the same school. Varsity divisions will be playing on DART [here] and Junior Varsity divisions on IS-203A. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at [email protected].

Note: Any teams who competed in the Southern California JROTC Invitational will be ineligible for JV.

DNE will take place at Del Norte High School (16601 Nighthawk Ln, San Diego, CA 92127). This post will be updated with specific rooms for check-in and play.

Check-in will begin at 8:30, and rounds will start at 9:00. There will be an all-teams meeting around 8:45, where the brackets will be shared. The tournament should end before 5:00.

Light breakfast will be provided and boba will be sold from lunch onwards. There are multiple shopping plazas within a 10-20 minute walk (4S Commons, 4S Village, Del Sur Town Center), with food options such as Board & Brew, Jamba Juice, Mostra, and Chipotle.

The Varsity division will be open to all Southern California high school teams. The Junior Varsity division will be open only to Southern California teams with no players who have scored 50+ PPG in a JV division, 30+ PPG in a Varsity division, or 10+ PPG at a high school national tournament. Eligibility is subject to the tournament director’s discretion.

Please email [email protected] with:

3. Additional discounts
4. Final expected cost

Registration will end on Wednesday, January 5th. All teams registering after this deadline will be waitlisted.

There will be a soft 32-team field cap for the tournament, at 16 for Varsity and 16 for Junior Varsity. Each school will be limited to registering three teams across both divisions, with any additional teams being put on the waitlist. In the Junior Varsity division, new teams will receive priority registration.

Teams will be allowed to have up to 6 players, but only 4 players can play at one time. Teams with more than 6 players will be asked to split into two teams. Teams will only be allowed to make substitutions at halftime.

Payment must be provided by cash or check before the tournament begins. Any checks should be made out to DNHS ASB, with Quizbowl in the subject line.
