CARLOS at Caltech (Online, 5/21/22, Regular+): No Geographic Restrictions! Last Practice Before HSNCT and PACE!

Post by leontaritisgranadino »

Hi everyone,
Caltech is excited to announce our second tournament, CARLOS (Caltech's Academically Rambunctious, Legendary, (not really) One-of-a-kind Scholastic event), directed by Alexander Koutsoukos with assistance from Carlos Del Angel and Katelyn Sulett! This is an official mirror of Prison Bowl XIV, a regular-difficulty+ high school set, which makes this tournament good practice for teams who are attending NAQT High School Nationals, PACE, and NASAT.

Date / Time / Location:
The tournament will take place on May 21st, 2022 over Discord. Matches will begin promptly at 9:00 A.M. PST.

Registration:
To register, please fill out this form. Replying to this thread will not register a team. The registration deadline is May 18th, 2022.

The initial field cap is 16, although we expect this to go up depending on staffer availability and team interest.

Eligibility:
This tournament is open to high school (and middle school) students from across the United States. There will be no geographic restrictions. Team members should all attend the same school.

Fees:
Schools that did not play any tournaments in the 2020-2021 season will pay a flat $50 per team. All other schools will pay $70 per team.

We would strongly prefer payments through Paypal or Venmo, please let us know if you are unable to pay this way! Payment information will be sent out on registration.

Discounts:
- $20 per experienced moderator
Minimum fee: $50 per team

Misconduct:
Players must follow the PACE Code of Conduct. We take all forms of misconduct extremely seriously. If you are threatened or are made to feel uncomfortable in any way please fill out the quizbowl misconduct form or, if you feel comfortable, please contact the Tournament Director or a staffer directly.

Staff:
To staff, please fill out this form. We will be paying staffers not affiliated with a competing school $25 through Venmo or Paypal. We may also be able to sign volunteer service forms for middle/high schoolers.

Tournament Format:
As the tournament will be run on Discord, cameras are mandatory and one hand must be visible on camera at all times. Please contact the Tournament Director to request an exemption to one or both of these policies.

Teams will be allowed to have up to 6 players, but only 4 players can play at once. Teams with more than 6 players will be asked to split into 2 teams. Teams will be allowed to make substitutions at halftime.

This tournament will use the PACE ruleset with 15 point powers and -5 point negs. Players will have 8 seconds to answer after a buzz, prompt, or bonus part. Ties will be resolved based on PPG (points per game) within brackets, and ties across brackets will be resolved based on win-loss ratios and PPB (points per bonus).

Inquiries:
Please reach out to me at [email protected] (or a-thegreat#2964 on Discord) if you have any questions!
