Rescheduled 2020 IAC Nationals - 12/3-6 & 12/27-30

Post by Great Bustard »

Update re Varsity / JV Nationals
IAC is pleased to announce that we have rescheduled the 2020 IAC Varsity and JV National Championships for December 3-6 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA (the original venue). However... this is obviously dependent on the outbreak being contained sufficiently by this time, which is by no means certain given current projections. IAC will err on the side of caution in determining whether this will go forward or not - a decision will be made most likely at some point in September whether to go ahead with this. Assuming this does take place, current seniors will be able to compete with their high school teams. 9th graders would also be allowed to compete in all cases. Any team or student that had qualified this school year would certainly be allowed to compete; we will be relatively lenient in determining wild card policies for the Bee and Bowl for tournaments that were cancelled. Tournaments held in fall 2020 (assuming these take place) would NOT however, qualify students for the 2020 Nationals, but just the 2021 Nationals.

Update re Middle School / Elementary Nationals
IAC is also pleased to announce that we have rescheduled the 2020 IAC Middle School & Elementary School National Championships for December 27-30 at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Rosemont, IL (the original venue). However... this is obviously dependent on the outbreak being contained sufficiently by this time, which is by no means certain given current projections. IAC will err on the side of caution in determining whether this will go forward or not - a decision will be made most likely at some point in September whether to go ahead with this. Assuming this does take place, current 8th graders will be able to compete with their middle school teams. For individual events, all students would compete in the divisions that they otherwise would have competed in during this school year. Tournaments held in fall 2020 (assuming these take place) would NOT however, qualify students for the 2020 Nationals, but just the 2021 Nationals.

Are the NHBB High School 2020 Nationals still being held (online) in December? There is a schedule up on the History Bowl website but I don't think there has been an official announcement.

Yes, that is the plan. Don't know much about the schedule but I assume the one on the website would be accurate.
