2020 Summer A Set History Leagues [Online, June-July 2020] - Registration OPEN

Post by Arthur.Ramsay »

International Academic Competitions (IAC) is pleased to announce the launch of the 2020 Summer A Set History Leagues, a set of four competitions for students to compete in for this June and July.

Leagues
(1) Team vs. Team Leagues that will be played on A Set Bowl questions, with one league playing on Tuesdays and the other playing on Saturdays, with matches read and scored by IAC provided moderators. These matches will be played using an online buzzer system. Some of these rounds will be 30 tossups only (all of which will be powermarked in 30-20-10 format), while other rounds will be in modified standard History Bowl format (i.e. 3rd quarter category rounds will not be timed as usual, but rather each player on the team (not including substitutes) must answer at least 2 questions; teams of 2 will have their players answer 4 questions each. The difference in the formats is being done in part to gauge which format is preferred by players and IAC staff and thus will be used when C Set is played in the fall. We will announce the breakdown following the registration period.
(2) Team vs. Packet League that will be played on A Set Bowl questions, with teams participating against modified question sets, to be read and scored by their team coach(es). These rounds will be tossup only, all will be power-marked in 30-20-10 format, and consist of 30 questions each. Conferring will not be allowed between team members.
(3) Bee Leagues to be played on A Set Bee questions, with matches read and scored by IAC provided moderators. Bee matches will be conducted on Thursdays. These matches will be played using an online buzzer system.

Eligibility
Eligibility is restricted to teams/students that have not yet played the 2019-2020 A Set of Bee and Bowl questions.

The Team vs. Packet League will be open to students in all grades; there will be separate Varsity, Junior Varsity, Middle School and Elementary divisions for this League.

When registering, teams in the Team vs. Team League and players in the Bee League will be asked to select a skill level in addition to their usual division classification. IAC will try its best to match teams and players up against those who have requested similar difficulty.

More information about exact timing for Bee and Team vs. Team matches will be available once registration opens.
