BLAST Available for 2019-20 Season Mirrors

Post by katherine »

I’m pleased to announce the Berus-Lie Academic Spring Tournament (BLAST), a high school housewrite for the 2019-20 season. The intended difficulty is HS regs+, a difficulty similar to HFT and harder than an IS set. The questions will be 6-7 lines long in size 10 Times New Roman. There will be 15 packets of powermarked tossups and bonuses.

Writing/editing
The set will be written by:
Katherine Lei, Matthew Shu, Chris Tong, Sophia Weng, and Shawn Zhao (all from Blair), Michael Li (High Tech/Brown), Steven Liu (High Tech/MIT), Darren Petrosino (High Tech/Rutgers), Cole Snedeker (High Tech/Yale), Ian Rackow (Blair/Brown), Dylan Bowman (Uní Lab), Keaton Martin (Woodford), Arjun Nageswaran and Govind Prabhakar (both from Stevenson), Anishka Bandara (UCLA), Hari Parmesan (Beavercreek/GTech), Ethan Strombeck (Auburn/Stanford) and Walter Zhang (Vestavia/Brown). Mazin Omer (Ottawa Hills/Harvard), Anson Berns (Blair/Brown), and Vishwa Shanmugam (UMD) will be advising us.

Andrew Wang will be head editing. Our subject editors are Katherine Lei (Science), Hari Parisian (History/Geography/CE), Vishwa Shanmugam (Literature), Anson Berns (Literature, Fine Arts, Philosophy/SS), Michael Li (Fine Arts), Mr. Wang (Religion/Myth)

Distribution
4/4 Science (1/1 Physics, 1/1 Chemistry, 1/1 Biology, .5/.5 Mathematics, .5/.5 Other Science)
4/4 History (1/1 American, 1/1 European/British, 1.5/1.5 World/Commonwealth, .5/.5 Ancient/Other)
4/4 Literature (1.5/1.5 Long Fiction, 1/1 Non-Epic Poetry, .75/.75 Drama, .75/.75 Short Fiction/Other)
3/3 Fine Arts (1/1 Visual, 1/1 Auditory, 1/1 Other)
3/3 RMPSS (0.75/0.75 Religion, 0.75/0.75 Mythology, 0.75/0.75 Philosophy, 0.75/0.75 Social Science)
2/2 Other (1/1 Geography, 0.75/0.75 Current Events, 0.25/0.25 Miscellaneous)

Literature will be subdistributed by genre, as has been done with several sets in the past. We are also using less trash than is typical of housewrites (it will be in the Miscellaneous category). In place of trash, we will have more geography and current events.

We have written about a quarter of the set. We expect it to be ready for mirrors in October. Mirrors will be $10 per team that plays (including house teams). If you are interested in mirroring BLAST or have any questions, please email [email protected].

The editors and writers list has been updated. BLAST is over 50% written. We're anticipating that the set will be completed earlier than originally stated; contact us if you would like to have an earlier mirror.

We are 90% done writing BLAST. It will be ready by October, which the original post has been edited to reflect.
