MASH (Regular HS, POSTPONED INDEFINITELY)

Post by BenWeiner27 »

This set is currently postponed indefinitely. This page will be updated if this set is at some point completed and ready to be mirrored. The original announcement has been left below.

I am pleased to announce the Minnesota Academic Spring Housewrite (MASH), a high school regular difficulty housewrite set for the 2021-22 season that will be available for mirrors from the weekend of January 8th, 2022 until May 2022. Tossups will be 625-675 characters in length and there will be 14 power marked packets of uniform difficulty.

The set will be headedited by Shardul Rao. I, Ben Weiner, will be handling set logistics. Subject editors will be Amogh Kulkarni (History, RMPSS), Shardul Rao (Fine Arts, Current Events), Josh Rollin (Geography), Bryanna Shao (Literature), Cece Shao (Literature), Ben Weiner (Science, Popular Culture), and Maxwell Ye (Science).

This set will be written by Minnesotan quiz bowl players in high school and college.

Distribution:

4/4 History (1/1 US, 1/1 World, 1/1 European, 1/1 Other)
4/4 Literature (1/1 American, 1/1 British, 2/2 World/European/Other)
4/4 Science (1/1 Chemistry, 1/1 Physics, 1/1 Biology, 1/1 Math/Comp Sci/Astronomy/Other)
3/3 Fine Arts (1/1 Painting/Sculpture, 1/1 Classical Music, 1/1 Other Fine Arts)
1/1 Religion
1/1 Mythology
.5/.5 Philosophy
.5/.5 Social Science
1/1 Geography/Current Events
1/1 Popular Culture

1/0 Tiebreak (Coming from any academic category)

Like most other housewrites, the math in MASH will be entirely non-computational.

Mirrors:

The mirror fee is $17 per team attending (including host teams). Hosts who provide us with conversion statistics for questions by using an online scoresheet system and posting team/individual statistics to hsquizbowl.org will receive a discount of $2 per team. Hosts with unique circumstances are welcome to inquire about changes to these amounts.

If you are interested in mirroring the set or have any questions regarding it, please email benweiner27 AT gmail DOT com.

We will allow MASH to be used at both in-person and online events depending on local circumstances; however, all online events will be required to limit their fields to ones corresponding to the area’s traditional local in-person circuit. All hosts and their proposed mirrors are subject to the set team's approval.

The title of our set refers to the state of Minnesota and should not be taken to refer to the University of Minnesota. This set is not endorsed by or directly associated with either the University of Minnesota or its quizbowl team.

Due to a lower number of active writers and editors being more busy this Fall than initially anticipated, MASH has been postponed indefinitely. We will post an announcement should we plan to complete the set in the future, but it will not be played during the 2021-22 season. On behalf of the production staff, we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
