DART II (HS Hard) (2021/2022)

Post by 21_Cabbage »

Hello everyone,

The Detroit Country Day Quiz Bowl Team is pleased to announce the second edition of DART (Detroit Country Day Academic Regular Tournament), which will be ready for mirrors starting on September 18th, 2021. Just like last year, all proceeds from this set will go toward a charity of our choice. Last year, we chose Gleaners Food Bank and the American Red Cross to help fight against the COVID-19 Pandemic. DART II is a collaboration with the Troy High School Quiz Bowl Team and a dedicated team of writers who were accepted through an application process.

DART II will have 13 packets of equal difficulty, each with 20 tossups and 20 bonuses, as well as an additional replacement packet of 10 tossups and 10 bonuses. All tossups will be powermarked, pyramidal, and between 550 and 650 characters each. All bonuses will have three parts without exceeding 8 lines (excluding answerlines). Our target difficulty is slightly above that of last year's edition. DART II will be comparable to past editions of the Harvard Fall Tournament. DART II will be harder than NAQT's Invitation Series sets, but significantly easier than NAQT's HSNCT questions.

DART II will be head-edited by Arthur Gayden (DCDS)

Our subject editors are:
Science: Steven Liu (MIT), Eric Yin (WashU)
History: Arjun Nageswaran (Harvard)
Literature: Zaid Siddiqui (UMich/ex-DCDS)
Fine Arts: Dylan Bowman (UIUC), Adam Sun (Stanford/ex-DCDS)
"The World": Sarod Nori (UIUC), Daniel Ma (Yale)
"Belief": Jon Suh (Harvard)
"Thought": Jason Golfinos (Harvard)

The subject distribution will be as follows:
4/4 Science (13/13 Biology, 13/13 Physics, 13/13 Chemistry, 4/4 Math, 4/4 Astronomy, 3/3 Earth Science, 2/2 Computer Science)
4/4 History (17/17 US, 13/13 British/European, 13/13 World, 5/5 "Ancient" (Pre-476 Eurasia/Pre-1492 Americas), 4/4 Mixed/Other)
4/4 Literature (17/17 US, 13/13 British, 13/13 European (including Classical), 6/6 World, 3/3 Mixed/Other)
3/3 Fine Arts (13/13 Painting/Sculpture, 13/13 Classical Music/Opera, 4/4 Architecture, 3/3 Photography/Film, 3/3 Performance, 3/3 Jazz/Miscellaneous Arts)

The mirror fee is $15 per attending team, including the host team. We require that tournament hosts do not change the content or format of our questions. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to [email protected] with the subject line: "DART II".
