MODAQ (MODerator Assistant for Quizbowl)

Post by Alejandro »

MODAQ (MODerator Assistant for Quizbowl) is a web application that lets moderators read and scorekeep in the same window, making it easier to manage games.

Features
  • Read and scorekeep in the same browser tab
  • Track buzz point data
  • Import rosters and export results to a Lifsheets, TJ Sheets, or UCSD Sheets scoresheet.
  • Load packets from Word documents, or Word documents parsed by YAPP
  • Persists the current game, so closing the tab doesn’t lose your data
  • Track various events that can happen like substitutions, protests, and thrown out questions.
You can try a demo of it here. Instructions for using the application are here You can use the attached packet to start with.

MODAQ is still in an alpha phase and is under development. It still requires polishing and features like supporting powers. The application is open source, and contributions are welcomed and encouraged. You can see the source on GitHub.

If you run into any issues, feel free to create a GitHub issue. If you have any questions contact me or ask about it on Discord in this server.

If anyone has a scoresheet format that also tracks buzz points, let me know and we can look into adding it as an export option.

Thanks. MODAQ has gotten some upgrades:
  • Can support formats with powers/superpowers, bouncebacks, and arbitrary number of questions
  • Automatically calculate points for powers and superpowers
  • Handle pronunciation guides
  • Keyboard shortcuts for common operations (previous/next question, selecting a word someone buzzed on)
  • Now an npm package that can be used in other projects
If you have any suggestions or bug reports, you can file an issue here.
