This was played. A good time was had by all. Mrs. Gupta and Evan N. tied for first.

I don't know if it's Chrome's fault (I did try IE, too, though) or me being really stupid, but I couldn't successfully get attachments to work--the attachment tab is just empty. Is there a minimum posts requirement before you can post attachments, or can someone else explain what idiocy I'm engaging in?

Yeah, I know this is a year late, but playing this head-to-head against my brother was probably one of the most enjoyable competitive experiences I've ever had. I think we actually tied (we wouldn't have if my mom wouldn't have butted in to get a good "Tapestry" buzz). If only I could play it for the first time again...

I will be reading a mini-packet of "Body Parts" themed questions tomorrow on the IRC at 1:30 PST. It'll probably be somewhere around 10+/10+, and it's mostly mythology with a little bit of trash thrown in there and some other random categories contributed by Jason Cheng. Be warned that, as you'd probably expect from a Body Parts packet, there are some questions that deal with graphic-ish topics, but I promise it won't just be a slew of "lol! genitals" questions.

Be advised that I wrote my questions for that entirely to mess with Charlie and before I ever knew he was going to actually use them somewhere. I promise that they were funny at the time, if unplayable

I plan on writing a packet of an undetermined number of extremely difficult "Will Alston vanity" questions about "the ancient world" (loosely defined) at some point within the next few months. Expect me to care substantially less about conversion rates than I did for my Barbarians packet and for there to also be questions about art, mythology, religion, etc.

For those who are not playing Tricon this weekend (or any weekend, I guess), I will read the second of my packets (unseen by anyone) tonight around 9 EST. If there's enough people who didn't see the first one, I'll read that too.

Friends, I'll have a Very Special Tricon packet (with a mystery theme!) to read tonight around 10pm (if you're not planning to play Tricon at Trash Day or other mirror I'm not aware of). I'll round up people in #quizbowl either before or after Will's event.

Will, it'd be great to get your packet to read at Trash Day as well! (Perhaps those planning to attend can wait to play in person, if they so desire.)

In a second reading:

For those who haven't seen my Trash Day packet (50 tossups, mostly film, but some TV, sports, video games, "other"), I'll read it if there's interest in #trash tonight at 9 CST. This is the same packet that I read in two installments earlier this week to a small audience, so if you only saw one part, feel free to join too.

I have written a dumb theme packet (almost all film related) kind of in the vein of Andrew Hart's recent Tricon packet. The questions are pretty short and somewhat unanswerable (I guess this sounds more like Carsten's Trash Day packet!). I will read it at 10 CST in #trash if there's interest.

This happened. Jamie Gold won it with 70, Eric Muhkerjee came in second with 50. Don't worry about it Matt, this one was too difficult anyway.

After remembering that I hadn't done this yet, I did an impromptu reading of this packet just now. Don't worry; I'm happy to read it again for people who missed it (or who I promised to contact before I read it...), and I'll actually announce that one ahead of time.

As it played out, it developed into a tight two-person race between Mykelti Williamson and Will Holub-Moorman, who split the last five tossups such that they finished tied; luckily, I had an extra tossup which the former converted. Here are the scores:

Code: Select all

mykelti: 100 + 10
alston: 45
adam: -20
pat: 10
will h-m: 100
tejas: 40
manners: 15
will n: 20
dylan: 15 + 15

I don't think any of the mirrors got to them, so I'll be reading the final two packets of VICO tonight at 10pm ET in #vico, minus the questions Jacob talked about in the discussion forum. I'll read some of my favorite questions from the set afterwards if anyone who didn't get to play the set/read it wants to hear them.

Several people have recently discussed to me that they find Renaissance art to be boring, bad for quizbowl questions, and/or not worth learning. I am writing a packet with 20 solid Italian Renaissance art answers to (hopefully!) prove them at least partially wrong, though the packet is going to be rather difficult. This packet will be done by some time next week.

I don't think anybody kept score but scores for the Renaissance art packet will hopefully be reconstructed shortly. The packet itself is attached.

EDIT: Itamar won, with 85 points!

Itamar: 4/3/1 - 85
Jordan: 4/1/0 - 70
Doug (played 17 questions): 3/2/1 - 60
Will: 1/2/0 - 35
Ryan: 0/0/1, but we gave him -10 for the neg since he buzzed with "Renoir"

EDIT 2: The previous packet I uploaded contained a factual error. This has been corrected.
