ACRONYM 11 @ HSNCT - Friday Night

Post by InvadErGII »

Play Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce that a mirror of ACRONYM 11 will be held as a part of the 2017 HSNCT weekend. The tournament will take place on Friday, May 25th - note that is is different from previous years. Like last year, the tournament will be split into two divisions: high school, for all-HS teams, and an "open" division for teams composed of staffers, coaches, etc. High school teams are welcome to register for the open division if they wish. Check-in will begin at 4pm, with the opening meeting starting at 5pm games starting shortly thereafter. While the schedule will not be finalized until much closer to the event, our intention is to give teams a bye during preliminary rounds, in which they can get checked in for HSNCT itself. Additionally, the plan is for this tournament to be certain to end at a reasonable time (likely 11pm) so that all participants can rest up for Saturday.

Registration for this tournament is open here. You can view the current field here. Registration requires some sort of team and affiliation on the NAQT website, but you are free to make up an ad-hoc school/association for this purpose.

Fees will be as follows:

Base fee: $90 per team
$10 discount per working buzzer system
$20 discount per moderator
Maximum total discount: $30

This'll need a handful of staffers, so if you'd like to do that (and get paid $20 to do so), you can sign up here.

I'm looking for teammates, or to join an already-registered open team! Shoot me a message. I'm good for a handful of sports and music buzzes.

I’m also looking to join a team and would be happy to play with anyone. I know some stuff about video games and “indie” music and have very little knowledge everywhere else.

Edit: I have a team.

A few quick updates on this tournament - first, the high school field is now full, and we are taking signups on the waitlist. There are also just two spots left in the open division. UPDATE - Both fields are now full. We're looking into expanding the field, but can't promise we'll be able to do so at this time.

We also still need a whole lot of staffers! If you'd like to do that, you can still sign up here.

Well, I thought our last day of school was on 5/25, so I booked an evening flight at Atlanta. Turns out we get out 5/24, so I switched my flight to the morning.

With that being said, I'm looking for a team for ACRONYM. Worst-case scenario I'll help Erik by staffing, but I'd much rather play. If you're looking for a guy with decent trash knowledge, shoot me a PM or email me at bk31883 at gmail.

David Dennis, myself, and Ankit Aggarwal would love to have a fourth player for our team, if there's a free agent looking for a team out there.

EDIT: Alan Kreisel is our fourth.

I'm interested in joining any open team that is looking for a fourth player. When we read a packet from an old ACRONYM in practice I scored the greatest number of points, so I infer that I'm better than Jacob Reed at high school trash.

Hey everyone! We are still looking into the possibility of expanding the fields for this, but I and NAQT would feel a lot better about doing that if we can get a few more staffers signed up. You can still sign up for that here. If you're an HSNCT staffer, please be sure to fill out the survey that was sent out the other day, as well.

Quick update on this event - both the high school and open fields are being expanded to 32 teams each. After promoting teams currently on the waitlists, the high school field will likely remain full, pending any cancellations. There will be a few spots available in the open division, so if you want to play in that division, I recommend doing so as soon as possible.

As a result of the field expanding, we're in need of a few more moderators. As always, you can sign up for that here.

David Song (of RU not Princeton), Joe Ham, and I are currently one teammate short. We're probably best at sports and TV (and video games?? maybe, idk what Joe knows). I'd imagine we're weakest on non-sports from before our lifetimes, but regardless of expertise PM me if you want to join us!

Alan and I are on a team (Agents of Freedom). If there are any other free agents looking for a team, we have 2 spots open. I have no preference on your trash knowledge. As long as you were alive for most of your life and saw or listened to stuff then you'll be fine.

EDIT: Johnathan T. has joined. We have a spot for one more.

Edit 2: mike sacks filled the last spot.

Congrats to Trashtastic Five and Singing Nuns, who won the open and high school divisions, respectively.

Stats through the prelims are available here. Due to some logistical problems during the playoffs (for which I take full responsibility), I do not have complete combined/playoff stats. At a minimum, I should be able to compile the final rankings of at least the top bracket teams.
