ACRONYM 11 @ UMN, again (03.04.18)

Post by Auks Ran Ova »

Hello! I'll be running a second Twin Cities-area mirror of ACRONYM 11 on March 4, 2018, which is the Sunday after Minnesota's mirror of Cal's Mid-Spring Tournament. It's a pretty standard open-eligibility event; entry will be on the order of $20-25/person.

(If you're looking for the event held two weeks earlier at the same location, that's over here. If you're unable to play that one, you're more than welcome to play this one; if you will have already played that one, your assistance in staffing would be appreciated!)

Here is a team-formation spreadsheet. The field is hard-capped at 14 teams, though I don't predict this will be a huge problem.

You: Can actually remember the names of actors/directors, and/or enjoys Remembering Some Guys
I: Know some things about music and even fewer things about hockey. I was the exact middle of the field in Celebs individual PPG and randomly 30ed a volleyball bonus at ACRONYM X. Call me, beep me, if you wanna reach me.

I'm looking for a team. Sometimes I know things that aren't sports, but I never know things that are sports.

Just a bump to indicate that I'm still seeking teammates, who preferably know video games and science.

Forgot this was a thing. I'm looking for a team who would like someone who knows sports and some other random trashy things. Please PM me or email me if your team has an opening!

Thanks!

I'm going to close the field now that we're at 8 teams. Please come up with a team name if you don't want one assigned to you; also, if you can, please stick a contact email address in the column on the spreadsheet I've just relabeled for that purpose.

Entry will be $25/person (to defray the cost of Sunday room rental). Please be at Blegen Hall room 150 by [EDIT] 8:30 am; we're aiming to start by 9.

Is there currently a plan for when this will end? I have a flight in the early evening that I imagine I can catch, but would like to know the schedule for this event. I think there could be a 8 team RR before lunch becuase I remember ACRONYM going very quickly last year.

My plan is currently an 8 team RR followed by a 4/4 split; with our group of readers I certainly think we can blow through the prelims before lunch. I could also be convinced to move the start time earlier if enough people need to leave early, I suppose.

As long as this is event is done by before 4-ish, I should be able to play all 10 rounds. In the worst case scenario, I leave a little bit early and it's no big deal. This shouldn't be an issue.

Gotten enough feedback re: starting earlier that I've bumped times up by half an hour. I appreciate your flexibility though!

Note that while the field is closed to new teams, there are still three spots available for potential free agents!

A team of myself, Alex Damisch, Morgan Venkus, and Dr. Will Nediger defeated a team of D. Dylan Minarik, Tejas Raje, Ryan Rosenberg, and Ramapriya Rangaraju in a one-game final to win this tournament.

Really??

That's a pretty awesome statline. I think that's the highest power % I've ever seen (not counting freshmen going 1/0/0 or something).

Two strange things about my team's (Cat's) stats:
1) We finished 3rd in PPB but last in the field.
2) I only got 16 tossups the entire day but 14 of them were for power because I basically only get sports.

Also, Arlo is a really good all-around trash player and people should want him as a teammate.

He played 4 tournaments and maintained 89.5% power%. I stand corrected, thanks!
