John Charles Daly Memorial Tournament - Feb 24th, 2018

Post by Jewish Pugilist »

Hi all,
This is the official announcement of an open trash set I have been working on for the last few months in my free time (with significant help from Brad Kirksey as well) for Spring. The Main UCF site will be on the date above starting at 9:30 AM and I will update what building it will take place in during the month of February.

Fee
$80 per team
-$10 for each staffer provided by a team
-$5 for bringing a buzzer (max 1)
There will be seven power-marked packets with the distribution below:

4/4 TV
4/4 Film
4/4 Music
4/4 Sports [Football 1/1, Basketball 1/1, Baseball and Soccer 1/1, and 1/1 other sports]
2/2 Games
1.5/1.5 Misc or Other Trash
.5/.5 Trash Literature

Here is the team sign-up sheet [https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing]

After the trash set, Ian Mackenzie will debut his sequel to CLAMAT, the animation tournament.

Half of the profits will be going to the super cool foundation, the Bounceback Foundation [more info here http://www.bouncebackfoundation.org/], run by Erik Nelson. Big Thanks to Jakob Myers for playtesting the first half of the set. If you have any questions about the set or would be able to playtest the set over Skype so I can continue to improve the tournament, feel free to comment below or email me at [email protected].

I'd be down to playtest any set with 4/4 trash. This seems fun.

Having heard half of this set, can confirm it is cool and good.

Shouldn't this tournament be called the John Charles Patrick Croghan Daly Memorial Tournament?

Actually, I should have called it one of the many versions of his name with false middle names said by Bennet Cerf during the run of What's My Line

I'd like to play this, but not as a solo player. If possible could I be placed onto a team. Thanks.

Hi all,
I wanted to quickly announce I am 95% done with the set and have started to edit for difficulty and grammar. Big thanks to Brad for really carrying me in the Sports categories (especially Football/Basketball) giving me plenty of time to improve the set.

Not that I know of, on one of the southern qb pages someone (Robin Richards probably) said he would be potentially interested for their annual trash tournament, Larry Munson Memorial, but that is all so far

I'd really enjoy playing a midwest one, although I don't obviously represent any school.

I hope you can, Mike! I don't have many contacts up there but if someone approached me from there I would happily give it to them at a discounted price, as I just want as many people to hear my little passion project as possible

I would play this at a potential summer side event weekend (or before, if there's a suitable Midwest tournament to attach it to).

Hello Alan!

It'll be at UCF on February 24th.

Having written about a quarter of the set, I'm really excited about this! I hate to spoil the surprise, but maybe more than 80% of the tossups are going to stem from the the hit show Torchwood and the band Die Antwood!

If anyone else is at CCCT and would like to play test JCD after prelims end today, I would be very much willing if there is any interest

I spent a little time playing with the stats from JCD. Most tossups were pretty direct and able to fall into one category. I broke the stats down for the biggest categories so people could have a little fun comparing stats in individual niches.

In gaming, we got
1) Harrison Andrew 5/3/1 (100 pts, 133 pp20)
2) Zach Foster 4/3/0 (90 pts, 120 pp20)
3) Jason Kwong 5/1/0 (85, 113 pp20)

In movies we got
1) Taylor Harvey 5/11/0 (185 pts, 128 pp20)
2) Donny Lisle 8/1/0 (130 pts, 93 pp20)
3) Harrison Andrew 1/9/0 (105 pts, 72pp20)

In TV we get
1) Harrison Andrew 3/12/0 (165 pts, 114 pp20)
2) Cody Johansen 4/4/2 (90 pts, 62 PP20)
3) Chris Coon 5/1/1 (80 pts, 55 pp20)

In old people TV (things we threw in to get the approval from Chris Borglum that we never got from our real dads)
1) Alan Kreisel (125 pp20)
2) Stephanie Andrew (123 pp20)
3) Jason Kwong (75 ppp20)

Music
1) Cody Johansen 3/10/1 (140 points, 100 pp20)
2) Harrison Andrew 2/11/1 (135 points, 96 pp20)
3) Griffin Thompson 3/8/0 (125 points, 89 pp20)
Honorable mention) Taylor Harvey 4/5/2 (100 points, 71 pp20)

And sports
1) Jacob Murphy 11/6/3 (210 points, 150 pp20)
2) Zach Foster 9/7/1 (200 points, 143 pp20)
3) Alan Kreisel 7/7.0 (175 points, 125 pp20)

For the curious, I broke down sports by sport.
Jacob Murphy led the field in football with a staggering 5/0/1 on 7 tossups, good for 200 pp20. Stunningly, Zach and Alan were second and third respectively with 114 pp20 and 100 pp20 respectively.

Basketball was similarly claimed by Jacob Murphy (3/3/0 for 214 pp20) with Alan and Leo Law taking second and third respectively. And Zach Foster led the field in soccer with 225 pp20, followed Jason Kwong and Jacob Murphy.

Thanks again everyone for coming out. I had a blast and I appreciate everyone who spent their day listening to our tossups.

There is interest in Canada for a mirror of the set this summer. Would it be available for that?
