CW Rock and roll Hall of Shame IV Set for Mirroring

Post by crbirdx » Fri Feb 01, 2019 8:17 am

Case Western Reserve University Quizbowl is proud to announce the fourth iteration of Rock and Roll Hall of Shame, a high school trash set.

Trash questions, broadly speaking, pull from pop culture that is not commonly touched upon in standard academic quiz bowl, such as movies, television, gaming, music, sports, technology, etc. As this may be the first tournament of the season for many students, CWRU Quizbowl looks to provides a fun introduction to quizbowl to new and returning students as well as to prepare teams for an exciting and competitive regular season. This tournament is meant for ALL players, as experienced teams that would normally excel at academic questions may not be as good at trash questions (and vice versa). Thus, there will be no separate division for JV; all teams will play in the same division.

QUESTION SET:

The set for Rock and Roll Hall of Shame IV will be a house-written collaboration by the members of CWRU Quizbowl. I (Andrew Halza) as well as Shawn Yoshida will act as co-editors for this set. The matches will be tossup/bonus (NAQT/HSAPQ) format, with 20 questions and 1 tie-breaker for every round. Looking back on past tournaments, the distribution of the set will be as following:

Movie/TV : 5/5
Games (PC, Console, Other): 2/2
Music: 4/4
Sports: 4/4
Internet/Technology: 2/2
Miscellaneous: 4/4

It is important to note that no piece of pop culture knowledge is presented in isolation, and we hope to present a set that is representative of this sentiment (e.g. a sports question will not just list stats of a baseball player or team, but instead may ask for common threads, a city where a team is located but also where a celebrity grew up, sports in movies, etc.).

MIRRORS:

If you would like to host a mirror of this tournament, please send me an email at ash114@case.edu. The mirror fee will be $9/team.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or would like to register, please email me (ash114@case.edu). We look forward to seeing you at CWRU on September 29th!

When do you expect this set would be complete and available for mirrors?
