Resobowl - A Charity Music Tournament for BLM (Good Call NYC)

What’s up! I’m excited to announce Resobowl, a fundraising OPEN tournament celebrating the global influence of African American Music. All proceeds from this event will go to support Good Call NYC, a BIPOC-owned company providing a free 24/7 emergency hotline that connects people who are arrested with a free lawyer and their loved ones. This event will cost 25 dollars for each player. The date of the tournament will be decided by the registrants' votes.

Created in response to the 2020 Black Lives Matter Protests, Resobowl aims to uplift and recognize the black artists that have created all the music we love to listen to. Pop, Hip Hop, Rock, Jazz, Soul, Country, R&B, EDM… I could go on nearly forever. And this tournament is to recognize exactly that fact, that many of our favorite songs are indebted to African and African-American traditions.

Resonator has brought on several professional musicians in these aforementioned genres to act as consultants to the writers of this tournament. These consultants such as Likwuid, Rashshwan Carter, and Olivia K have dedicated their lives to forward-thinking, and have garnered the attention of Sway’s Universe, The Recording Academy (GRAMMYs), and OkayPlayer. Through a series of conference calls, the tournament’s writers sat with the musicians and picked their brains on their genre’s biggest influences, moments in history, and cultural touchstones, all of which set the tone for the packet’s writing.

This is the tournament’s second purpose. We truly believe that the only solution to the systemic whitewashing of our arts and culture lies in our hands. That the only way to reverse the years of white-centric arts education is to play a role in education itself. Even if it’s something as seemingly trivial or niche as well — trivia — we can actually make a difference in our own lives. And so we’re donating all the proceeds of Resobowl to Good Call NYC. The money raised would be going towards their mission to expand their award winning service to low-income communities across the nation. All of the staff and writers have also donated their time to organize and write the tournament.

See you there!

This looks like a great idea for a tournament, and I'm excited to play. I have a few questions. When will the tournament take place? How many rounds can we expect to play? And how many players can play on each team at a time? Thanks.

Did you mean to say "70s-90s Hip Hop" twice? Other than that and the questions Robert asked, this looks great

I think this is saying that there will be 2/0 70s-90s Hip Hop and 1/0 Contemporary Hip Hop and R&B, since that adds up to 3/0

Hey all, thanks for the questions! Here's some more info, which I'll add to the main post ASAP.

1. Yes, there are 2/0 70s-90s Hip Hop and R&B questions per packet
2. There are 10 packets
3. Five players per team, with 4 players playing at one time.
4. Dates are TBD on staffers and players' availability. There'll be a poll soon!
