PAveMEnT II: More Malkmus, More Jicks (November 1-12 on Qblitz)

Post by TaylorH »

I’m pleased to announce PAveMEnT II, the sequel to the recent PAveMEnT (Popular Music Auditory Music Enthusiast Tournament). PAveMEnT II will once again be an online music doubles tournament oriented around popular music, i.e. non-classical music. The tournament will be written by myself, Victor Pavao, Isaac Renert, Lea Wittman, and Chauncey Lo, with input from Young Fenimore Lee, Wonyoung Jang, and Anson Berns. The first mirror will be held November 1-12, 2021 on Qblitz. You can register for the tournament here: https://www.qblitz.online/events

The entry fee per player (per tournament/mirror) will be $15. The distribution entirely consists of popular music genres. The difficulty of the questions will be similar to the first PAveMEnT. The distribution is as follows:

2 pop music from 1950-1989
2 pop music from 1990-2020
1 soul, blues, pre-1960 rock and R&B
1 country and folk
1.5 jazz, Great American Songbook, and traditional pop
1 electronic music, electronica, and house music
3.5 rap, hip-hop, and R&B
1.5 rock from 1960-1979
1.5 rock from 1980-1999
1.5 rock from 2000-2020
3.5 extra or misc. tossups - these can span across genres and eras

There will be 12 total packets.

Sweet. I hope to retain my slot as the worst PAveMEnt player.

The set is about 30% written. Production is going a little slower than anticipated, so we are now shooting to have the first mirror of this set sometime in fall 2021. The open post has been updated accordingly.

We are pleased to announce that the first mirror of this event will be held on QBlitz from Nov. 1 to Nov. 12, 2021. Registration and payment will be handled by QBlitz. I will post here when the registration opens on the QBlitz website. The set will be played in duos and cost $15 per player. For now, here is a team organization and free agent spreadsheet for the mirror: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

Official registration for Pavement II is now open on the Qblitz website here: https://www.qblitz.online/events Select Pavement II and add the tournament to the cart and pay to officially sign up.

If you want to play the tournament, please use the above link to sign up. Just putting your name on the teams sheet in the previous post is not sufficient for registration.
