George,

I see that you have LINKED your date claims somehow to the "Regular Season Tournament Announcements" Forum. Could you explain how to create such links, so I could do it for the NY/NJ date claim calendar? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

This is a tentative bid for two possible dates. We have it penciled on our school's calendar and reserved the dates but nothing has been finalized until our new assistant principal takes over the reins of scheduling. Until then, I'd like to claim these dates: November 13th for our CSI V and February 19th for our spring tournament (no name yet).

The CSI is still our housewrite but the spring tournament is not. We're looking into a couple of question providers and if anyone can help us out with that regard, that would be great. We're trying to treat the spring tournament as a season ender for SW VA as well as a preliminary warmup for VHSL States.

According to NAQT.com, Bel Air High School is hosting a tournament on November 20th, using IS-97A. This seems to be the same day that UPenn might host QuAC III, however, as it has been their wont to host that competition the weekend before Thanksgiving.

See this thread for discussion of last year's Bel Air/Penn date conflict.
Chris White wrote:Eh, this isn't a problem. Our 32-team field is full as is (with a waitlist to boot), and the Mid-Atlantic is a large enough place that it can support multiple tournaments on the same weekend, especially when we're mostly drawing northern (NY/NJ/PA) teams traveling south to Philly, plus a few strong programs from further afield that probably aren't going to drop everything to attend an A-set tournament. The two tournaments serve different fields, and there is more than enough room for both of them.

As someone who went to Bel Air last year, nearly none of the quizbowl usual suspects are there, and the format is a little wonky, as they dissect the set and make up their own format with it.

We were considering September but we didn't...for some reason. and the 30th was the only date in October that worked for us.
Speaking of our tournament, I should clarify that this one will be HSAPQ. We plan to host a co-housewrite (with duPont Manual) sometime in the January/February area (the Kentucky QB calendar is kinda ridiculous)

The University of Maryland has just announced that we will host a high school tournament 9/25. Additionally, we will probably host another high school tournament in November or early December, the exact timing of which will be worked out soon.

Hey, Raynell and Daniel and Sam and other RM people... have you formally decided to use HSAPQ for your October 30th tournament? We would certainly consider going, but our conflict is going to be what UPenn decides to do on their annual QuAC competition that is presumably going to be held on November 20th (but no formal or informal announcement has been made of that at all yet).

I'm assuming that HSAPQ is only going to have one set done by the end of October (if that!), so i'd be nice to know which sets different tournaments are going to use... and since you guys have preference (i.e., you actually announced your tournament, even if you didn't create a thread yet), i'm thinking UPenn might have to find another source or just hope not to have much overlap in teams. I can say that for our case, if both tournaments used the same set, we would go to Penn... it's just a little closer, and they've run great competitions the last couple years.

Hey,
We have formally decided to use HSAPQ; Shawn just got back to me yesterday and I'm planning on putting up the formal announcement today. We have set 16. We'd love to see you guys here on 10/30! But we won't hold it against you if you got to Penn haha.

An FYI for all interested in the U Penn QuAC:

Mehdi Razvi of U Penn did make an INFORMAL announcement that U Penn's QuAC would most likely be on November 20, 2010. He made this announcement on July 6th, circa 10AM, in the NY/NJ Date Claim Forum for 2010-2011 within the Northeast Comparisons & Discussions (right here in the National and Regional Comparisons & Discussions Forum if you wish to see his announcement with your own eyes). Assuming that the FORMAL or OFFICIAL announcement he stated he would make to confirm this date is soon forthcoming, this might help you with your planning. I hope it does.

We're not sure what set we're using--HSAPQ has confirmed we'd not be able to use one of theirs unless it's the same one RM uses, which I probably wouldn't want to do unless all other possibilities are exhausted. Will get back to you as soon as I know--consider it official we're going with 11/20 for our date though.

I can confirm with about 99% accuracy that we will be using an HSAPQ set similar to last year, set 17, the modified VHSL sets. Questions similar to the difficulty of these packets can be found here http://www.hsapq.com/wordpress/wp-conte ... s/2010/05/ starting at "tourn11-01.pdf."

I'll have a thread set up for the tournament once i'm 100% certain that this date will work. I assume no conflicts will arise though.

actually we will host;
-Our collaboration with Vanderbilt on the 23 January
-NAQT States we will be moving to April 2nd

we have asked about hosting Prison Bowl on March 26th.
And now we have permission to do it.

We are also running the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship at the end of April again (april 30th).

Are there are tournaments in the area that are going to be using HSAPQ set 16 other than Cave Spring in February? We don't want to miss any HSAPQ packets this year if we don't have to.

At Rider Bowl II, we're going to reserve set 17 (the one using forms of VHSL questions).

We are going to have to move the date of our BATE mirror to April 30. Also it appears like the dates for VHSL regionals and the TJ housewrite conflict.

EDIT: Make that April 30.

RM would like to reserve April 23 for a mirror of Yale's BHSAT. (I haven't yet cleared the date with the school, I'll check with my coach/the school this week)

@ Raynell:

I just wanted to make sure that you knew that 4/23 is Easter Saturday. Many schools will be on spring break that weekend. That, of course, may not affect your planing, and that is fine.

Oh whoops, thanks for letting me know. Don't think that'll work out then. I would say March 19, but since the main site of BHSAT is a week later, I don't think that'll be possible. We'll probably go for a Sunday, but I'm not sure yet.

Yes this is still happening, although we will most likely use a vendor set. The housewrite will most likely be in April.

Okay, that's good. What set? No one else but Cave Spring in the Mid-Atlantic has claimed HSAPQ set 16. Or is there something else you wanted to mirror?

We'll be using HSAPQ-16; the official announcement should be coming soon.
