12/4/10 - Columbia High School Tournament (Huntsville, AL)

Post by quizbowllee »

Dear Coaches and Sponsors,
I would like to invite your team(s) to the 1st Annual Columbia High School Invitational Quiz Bowl Tournament to be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at the Columbia High School Campus in Huntsville, AL. The tournament is open to all teams consisting of players in grades 12 and below. There will be separate awards given to Junior Varsity Teams (grades 10 and below).
The tournament will use questions written by SCOP (Scholastic Community Outreach Program). This is the only tournament in the Southeast using this set of questions. Therefore, there should not be any conflicts. These questions are written at a level suitable for new players and veteran players alike. Furthermore, this tournament will serve as a National Qualifier for the PACE (Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence) National Scholastic Championship. The top teams will qualify to compete for the PACE National Championship this June in Chicago.
The registration fee will be $65.00 per team with the following discounts:
-$5.00 for each additional team
-$5.00 for each working buzzer system (limit one discount per team)

Please make checks out to:
Columbia High School
c/o Lee Henry
300 Explorer Blvd.
Huntsville, AL 35806

To RSVP or if you have any questions, please e-mail me at [email protected].
Also, additional information and field updates will be available here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=10358

I hope to see you all in Huntsville on Dec. 4!!!

Sincerely,

Lee Henry

For some reason naqt.com says this is the "tentative" day as our Snead ACBL tournament, which is odd because it's on a Saturday. I'm pretty sure it's just a typo, but even if for some odd reason it isn't I should still be able to come help barring any set conflicts.

Just a reminder about our tournament. I've had a few people unofficially express interest, but I'd like to start getting specific commitments ASAP. Please let me know if you are planning to attend.

I just got word that NAQT does not have any sets available for our tournament in December. Therefore, I will be looking for possible events to mirror or other parties interested in providing questions. I hope this won't lessen interest in our tournament.

Thanks,

Pensacola is interested provided this does not conflict with UF's winter tournament.

I am excited to announce that we are now officially mirroring the SCOP (Scholastic Community Outreach Program) tournament. I don't think that there will be any regional conflicts with this set, as it is currently being used only in Illinois. This will be a great set as Alabama continues to embrace pyramidal play and the standard 20/20 format.

Start registering, folks! We need teams!!!!

The closest mirror to Alabama is one at Harding University in Searcy, AK, this Saturday. Apart from that, there's one in Arizona and one in Indiana, but the rest are in IL.

I have edited the original post to include the price.

Registration will be $65/team with a $5 discount for working buzzers (limit 2 such discounts per team). I will also consider other discounts for out-of-state teams, etc. Please contact me ASAP if you are interested. [email protected].

ASFA would like to register two teams for this tournament. How do we register? Is there a registration form yet?

I'm glad to see that this tournament is growing quickly! I will be e-mailing all coaches who have registered or expressed interest soon to get numbers and levels of teams. Or, those of you who read this forum, please feel free to reply and let me know for sure how many teams you are bringing and how many (if any) will qualify for a JV division.

Thanks,

We're at 34 teams. I will take exactly one more team to get us at 35. Then I'm closing registration.

Thanks for all the interest. I wasn't expecting much at a new school, but this may be the biggest tournament I've ever hosted.

That being said, if anyone is available to moderate on Dec. 4 in the Huntsville area, I am officially desperate for a few more good mods!!!
