The Locust Grove tournament is going to use IS-101A. I'd look at the announcements on the GATA forum to check on some of the others, but it just happens to be down right now.

Also, NASAT is June 11-13.

EDIT: Ok, it's back. Looks like Savannah Country Day is using IS-100, Brookwood JV is a housewrite, Jag Bowl is IS-104 (no official announcements for any of them, though). The same thread from which I got this info also says that Dorman's is also a housewrite.
Norcross is mirroring Prison Bowl March 12. There are also rumors about North Georgia College holding something February 19.

One minor correction is that the set we're using for our tournament is abbreviated GSAC instead of GSCA.

As for Kentucky tournaments, I think Danville is hosting an NAQT tournament on April 30th. Dunbar will probably host its usual spring tournament, although you'd have to ask them for more specific details.

Just a warning that the Fleming County tournament will be Quick Recall, rather than Quiz Bowl. Teams from out of state
should know what they're getting into... It is a timed, terribly restrictive format (hesitation rules) that is not pyramidal. It also has math comp.

Edit: Less offensive to KY state format.

Norcross High School (Norcross, GA) will be hosting a mirror of the Prison Bowl on March 12th.

I would love to see either a Prisonbowl and/or PSAT mirror in Kentucky/Nashville.

Manual was actually considering mirroring Prison Bowl...

That would be nice.
Maybe in Febuary, since there seems to be more tournaments in March and April as of now (WKU, Dunbar, Danville, etc.)
Later would work too though...

We are thinking about hosting a tournament on DII questions sometime in May.

Saajid Moyen is pretty much denying any chance of a PSAT mirror in KY

I thought I made this clear to Nick before. I want the southwestern Ohio teams to go to Case to play PSAT. Also, since PSAT is pretty late in the school year, I was hoping for some other midwestern states to be represented at Case. I offered a couple months ago to let Manual have the set (I would have switched to a different set) but no one seemed to be interested in that. Besides, there are plenty of sets to use. If there are no mirrors of Prison Bowl or BATE nearby then use those. There's no need to continually worry about one set.

From what I understand, BATE can't be mirrored in Kentucky because Chattahoochee HS in Georgia is hosting a mirror of it on December 11th, and will apparently be drawing Kentucky teams.

Edit: Also, if Manual hosted a PSAT mirror and just barred Ohio teams from the field, wouldn't that prevent a conflict?

I guess so, but wouldn't the top KY teams want to play against the top OH teams?

Why not just use Prison Bowl? I'm sure some OH teams would want to play that if it's hosted in KY. Plus, doesn't Maryland write a spring tournament? And is GDS writing the Ben Cooper tournament again? These would all be valid options to mirror.

I know -- I was assumed no one wanted to knock you off PSAT. I was stating that another set should be used. I'm sorry if I implied something more than that.

I think it would be great for top KY teams to play top OH teams, although the date that your tournament is on is the same weekend Dunbar traditionally hosts their Spring tournament. Even if they use another date, I'm not sure how many teams in Kentucky will want to or can afford to go to Cleveland the week before the state tournament. All this aside, if nobody in Kentucky wants to do a PSAT mirror I'm not going to complain.

Plus it's relative position means many southern Ohio teams won't want to go and the same with KY teams.

To be completely honest, I'm a little frustrated when people (and this is a general trend not just the situation we're talking about here) are very insistent on teams traveling large distances (therefore costing them more money) to play quizbowl because they want to have giant fields with a bunch of good teams from multiple circuits. This hurts newer teams and programs with smaller budgets. Saying Kentucky can't have a PSAT mirror because there's one in Cleveland or Kentucky can't have a BATE mirror because there's one in Georgia means that the only teams in this area that will play those sets are teams who have the means to travel several hours away. In my opinion that's bad for quizbowl.

If there are no other question sets to use in Kentucky other than PSAT, then I would be fine with letting someone use it there, but I am under the impression that this is not the case.

I think we will be fine on sets.
We already have two NAQT IS, GSAC, and one HSAPQ.

Prison bowl is still open, along with the other HSAPQ sets.
That said, I'm not sure who else would host a tournament aside from the scheduled ones other than Manual and Grayson.
There are more than enough questions to go around.

If someone really wants PSAT, they probably should have spoken up about it earlier.

However, I do agree that the Case tournament will probably not have very many Kentucky teams.

I'm not sure how happy Culver would be if someone held a DII SCT mirror in Kentucky, seeing as how Dunbar and Manual went to theirs last year and it's a shorter drive from both Louisville and Lexington to Culver than to Case.

I'm sure no good teams would go to the KY mirror if it were mutually exclusive with Culver, as the competition at Culver is just too good. Manual wouldn't.

Midwest completely slipped my mind.
We are actually thinking about going there, so using DII would make no sense.

So, we still have Prison Bowl, IS 104, 102, and the HSAPQ sets to work with.
They should be enough for any teams in KY that would want to hold a tournament that are not currently planning to do so.

There was only HSAPQ set made. So not really

Do you mean there is only one HSAPQ set? If so, that's not true for the timeframe you're talking about, they're making more next semester.

I was told by HSAPQ people a couple months ago that there will be a set 16 done by January and a set 17 within a month or two after that. Set 16 will be another mACF one and Set 17 will be as well, made from the VHSL sets, similar to last year's set 11.

While poking around the Questions Unlimited website, I stumbled across the unfortunate information that Central will be hosting :chip: 's Georgia regional tournament. Kill me now. Anyway, the dates and locations for :chip: Regionals are all here if you want to add them (there are also the announcements on this board).

Fun fact: Way back at the start of the semester, GT was approached to host that very event.

This applies mainly to Florida and Alabama people, but... Pensacola is thinking of running a tournament in the fall, and we were wondering which set you would like to see used. We're thinking of mirroring GSAC or Prison Bowl, but we're also willing to just do a normal IS-A, IS, or HSAPQ set.

Thoughts?

On 4/2, Conway High School near Myrtle Beach is hosting NAQT IS-104 at their inaugural Conway Academic Tournament. I spoke to the TD and he said he was generating a lot of interest in his area. We're going down, and it would be great to see some other NC teams come, particularly with the state tourney coming up and the lack of NAQT sets in our area.

Can someone add this date to the calendar?

Quizcub Open (JV/MS Hybrid) at Bainbridge High School (GA) on April 23...we'll be using a set written by QuizTeamQuestions.

Bainbridge is relatively convenient for South GA/North FL/The Panhandle, but I will admit that we're in a very odd position, geographically (we're pretty much as far south as you can get in Georgia without actually being in Florida...haha).

Hey, I just noticed that we don't really have a mirror of BHSAT in the area, and I think this would be a really good set to mirror here. We've exhausted most of the NAQT sets this year, and from what I know it's somewhere between regular difficulty and HSNCT so it's a good preparation for nationals. I've been assured by a friend that it's a good set so yeah. Try to get on this, Southeast. The more good tournaments we can have, the better.

This is Correct.

We are still actively seeking mirrors in the Southeast, perhaps multiple if circuits don't overlap to heavily (i.e. one in SC/GA, another in KY/TN, another in AL/MS, etc). If you are interested, email matthew.jackson AT yale DOT edu to secure a mirror at your school. The set is open for mirroring by any interested high school or college in the region on any weekend between now and HSNCT.
