2010 Fall Knowledge Masters Open Results...

Post by the return of AHAN »

Middle School Division:
Barrington Middle School - Station Campus scored 1,653 points getting 199 of 200 correct (yeah, numerous on the 2nd chance, but 99.5% success sounds cooler).

RUN IT DOWN, KIDS!

Longfellow's 1,621 was good FTW a year ago, while 1,700+ has been necessary in other years. So who knows?

We got 1765 1764, IIRC. Doing the KMO feels rather strange.

EDIT: I remembered incorrectly. Darn.

CR has officially stopped wasting our money and time on this pointless competition.

Well, we kinda sucked at it anyway.

I think it's a morale boost for kids who don't usually feel the success of normal quiz bowl, though we did miss some boneheaded questions..

Ee gads, smoked by Longfellow (1750+) again. Jonathan L moves on and they simply reload, apparently.

Just checked the preliminary results and we placed 8th out of 500+ schools. That's darned respectable, but I got my hopes up when I saw 1620 was good enough to win it all a year ago.

I don't see any results from Fall 2010 up yet.

On the high school side, BCA got 1632.

These questions in general do tend to be boneheaded, though. It's pretty much everything we try to avoid in regular quizbowl (hoses, frauds, bad answer lines, etc.) thrown into one computerized competition.

Good choice. I don't think really any serious player on my team wanted to do KMO, but it does make good recruitment fodder and involves some of the less dedication-inclined people.

I should clarify that our quiz bowl team doesn't consist just of the people listed in the article, though it's phrased as such at the end. There are many other kids who consistently work hard and contribute to the team that just couldn't make it that day and aren't getting this recognition (for whatever it's worth, being KMO and all) as a result.

I know some elderly former professors of Middle Eastern origin who get along pretty well. Do you think they might constitute the "United Arab Emeritus" mentioned in the article?

Haha, I love how our school officials can't spell the names of countries correctly. That is, actually, an e-mail from our Vice President for Advancement and is eerily reminiscent of an article on our school's website.

Except the school website didn't misspell things.

That's just because it was UAE on the website. When actually trying to spell it out, they put Emeritus. I would be shocked if they misspelled an acronym.
