HS Quizbowl Packet Archive Downtime

Hey Everyone,

quizbowlpackets.com will soon be undergoing a switch to a different server! This is exciting news, as it will be lowering my costs, as well as moving to a system better designed for large-scale content distribution, hopefully showing better speeds for all users! I'm unsure of the specifics of when the actual transfer will occur, so I'm going to say there may be splotches of downtime over the next week or so. I apologize for the inconvenience!

Thank you all for your continued support of the HS Quizbowl Packets Archive, and congratulations on a great regular season to all teams, big and small!

Thanks a lot for running this site. It is a major help to a lot of teams, including mine.

So, it seems we should be close to the end of the planned downtime. The transition, with one caveat, should be complete. The caveat being that right now, with the way Amazon S3 (the new storage mechanism) works, "quizbowlpackets.com" will always be "down". How do you get to quizbowlpackets.com, you ask? http://www.quizbowlpackets.com. WWW.

I'd like to take this post to also thank the fearless maintainer of QBPackets, George Berry, for all he's done for what I believe is a year nowish. Thanks George!

The "high school" link at the top of the collegiate page points to the URL without the www, so it doesn't work.

That's...untrue on my machine... There may still be some DNS propagating or cache refreshing going on here, but I definitely updated it so that is no longer the case.

Works for me now; maybe it was cached, though I thought I force-reloaded.

The hsquizbowl.org packet search needs to be updated to reflect the new need for "WWW."

What happened to LIST? It seems to have disappeared.

Prison Bowl IV also seems to have disappeared.

Prison Bowl and LIST will be reposted momentarily. If you are aware of other sets that were lost in the transition, please let me know so I can get them back up.

A tad unrelated (maybe), but the link to the Stanford archive seems to be broken or isn't taking me to the actual archive but a "page not found" on the Stanford webpage. EDIT: To get to to the Stanford archive, theres an extra period between "edu" and "/archive" it should read

Code: Select all

http://quizbowl.stanford.edu/archive/

There's a trailing period after the .edu in the link.

Please correct me if I'm just being ignorant, but looks like Prison Bowl has been reposted. Unfortunately, the links (and the zip file) do not seem to work?

The zip should be working fine (I experienced a bit of lag on the download but once it started it went fine), and I am fixing the coding issue with the index page of the Prison Bowl folder right now.

I had no trouble downloading the zip, but once I opened it, all the Round docs were blank.

I feel like this is a decent place to mention that the CMST II set's zip file is giving me a 404.

This should work now.

Hey, has someone posted the VHSL Archive from 2001 to 2009 to the site yet?

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mmd0wdj5nyz

I wouldn't take the pre-2006 questions as seriously though.

I think the 2008 MSHSAA series made it too.

Not as bad speedcheck is still speedcheck, though. But it might be useful at practice from time to time.

I see HFT is on the site now, but I don't happen to see Maryland Spring nor DAFT.

If there are no mirrors yet to be played of it, could someone please post this year's Maryland Spring? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Is George Berry still handling the posting of new packets to the archive? I tried to email him and asked about a possible backlog of updates, since I haven't noticed a change in either the HS or College list in quite a while. Is there an issue with the site itself?

I spoke to George about this when I saw him Thursday night and apparently the site has stopped allowing him to log in, so Chris Carter is the only one with access.

Would it be possible to send him the sets then to have them archived?

This problem has been going on for at least a few weeks--there are no questions from this academic year. Is it time for somebody to start a new archive, or is this issue going to be fixed soon?

The tournament DB doesn't actually provide any way to upload the question sets. You still need an external filehost or something to link to. I would suggest that (in the temporary absence of a dedicated quizbowl packet hosting site) people upload sets to Mediafire for hosting if they don't have access to institutional/personal webspace.

If people send questions to me I can host them while the issues with quizbowlpackets.com get sorted out. Send them to bentley.michael.j@gmail.com.

George Berry now has access to the archives and can add to them.

I do indeed. Obviously, there is a bit of backlog, but my goal is do be up to date by the end of this weekend.
