Theres an app for that.

Post by Nick »

So my buddy Mark Hahnenberg and I thought that since its a tech-hungry 2011, and we have a deep love for computer science (and the environment?), we would look into making an app to keep score for quizbowl games! (by "we" I mean he did all the actual work and I just sat around and thought of stuff and/or played with it; a lot like I imagine the writing of Good Will Hunting happened)

This is what we came up with: https://market.android.com/details?id=c ... rch_result

It is available on the Android Market for free for anyone who wants to check it out and/or use it at a practice/tournament/whatever. Its by no means perfect or as comprehensive as it could be, but it does do a pretty good job of keeping score in a standard NAQT-format game. From what I understand about tech-copyright things and stuff, the code is open and free for anybody to use, take apart, expand, or improve as they would like. On that note, if anybody would like to see improvements or additional features, they would need to take that upon themselves, as Mark has a real job now, and I can hardly spell "computer science." If you have any questions, however, feel free to post here or email me and I can try to relay them as necessary.

Let us know what you think!

This is pretty cool. Will this work for the iPod touch/any plans on an iPod touch version?

Would it be possible to post the code to something like Github? I'd be interested in making this interface directly with QBSQL-- shouldn't be too hard.

I've been told that by this evening it will be under the Apache 2.0 license.
