Me: *buzzes, enthusiastically* Alpha Centauri!

My teammates nearly had a fight about who got to smack me upside the head.

Yeah...it started off by making clear it was a linguistic thing, and then gave a couple of examples. One of my teammates, who was completely zoned out, heard "football team of Iowa" and immediately buzzed in.

The Chipmunks and Spinal Tap actually have a lot in common. The Chipmunks' drummer choked on someone else's puke - just like Spinal Tap. Spinal Tap has Bobbi Fleckman (Fran Drescher) and The Chipmunks have Dave... I can see it.

He buzzed in at the very beginning, when it said it may have originated in the Minoan civilization. It was only after he buzzed that they actually described the thing in question.

The second and third were funny; however, I beleive NAQT rules accept last name, first name for an author. So, the first one should have been accepted.

CORRECT ANSWER: Murphy's Law

In some defense, the question was talking about an addage that applied to engineering, though my answer was completely stupid.

Actually, given just that info, I wouldn't consider Murphy's Law all that bad a guess ..... a bit too fast as you observed, but not by any means a foolish choice (I would more question someone who wrote a toss-up with that correct answer, than someone giving your answer).

Actually, no. It said something about him being pioneering a home gym system or some other random clue. Schwarzenegger wasn't a bad guess, especially considering that the question was probably written before Mr. Norris reached the fame he has today.

Given:

I just got my information for the seeding meeting. Since I am in Class A, and many of the teams are more than an hour a way from the seeding meeting most have indicated they are not coming to the seeding meeting. In the past, the people who came to the seeding meeting would get a list of the scores, and the name of the teams that they had played. This year all I am getting is the teams record. This is a little disappointing, that we moved to a system with greater technological requirements and get less information than before. For those who are interested in Class A, here are the records of the teams in my subsectional:
