7th Hoover Invitational Tournament (7HIT) - 10/29/2011

Post by Joshua Rutsky »

As of now, all divisions are full. We do have a waitlist. I am projecting that the tournament will run as follows:

8:15 Registration
9:00 Play begins
Varsity - 4 pools of 8 (7 rounds). Top 2 teams from each pool advance to playoffs, where they will be seeded into brackets; three rounds of playoffs determine the championship, with an advantaged final based on overall record.
Novice - 2 pools of 6 (5 rounds). Top 4 teams from each pool advance to playoffs; three rounds of playoffs determine the championship. There will NOT be an advantaged final in the novice grouping.
JV - 2 pools of 7 (7 rounds). Top two teams from each pool with advance to playoffs, where they will be seeded into brackets for playoff. There will NOT be an advantaged final in the JV grouping.

Lunch break will be after round 5, and will be 1 hour and 15 minutes, after which play will resume as quickly as possible. Preliminaries should be over by 2:30 PM, and the tournament should be over by 4:30 PM.

Hoover High School (Hoover, Alabama) would like to invite you to the 7th annual Hoover Invitational Tournament, to be held October 29th, 2011. This tournament will feature the following:

- NAQT Packet IS-109 played with standard NAQT rules (no bouncebacks, powers and negs active)
- Varsity division (open to all HS teams)
- "Novice" division (open to all teams with players in 11th or 12th grade, but with minimal (2 or fewer) previous tournaments worth of experience)
- JV division (open to any team made up of players in grades 10 or under, including really ambitious MS programs)
- Awards for first and second place in all three divisions

Playoffs will be based on the number of teams participating, with the most likely scenario being a bracketed playoff with advantaged finals. We reserve the right to change this to a round-robin format for top teams if the numbers at the tournament make this reasonable. Novice and JV will have independent playoffs if round-robin format is not used.

The cost per team for this tournament is $60, and $55 for each additional team, with up to two discounts of $5 for a WORKING buzzer set. Please test buzzers before arrival, as we will have to charge you if a buzzer isn't working when set up. Teams that need to stay locally overnight will be provided with hotel information and may have fees waived or drastically reduced. Teams from smaller schools or schools under financial pressure due to current economic conditions may request fee reductions, two-for-one deals, or other accommodations as our circumstances permit. It's almost like "name your own price" quizbowl, without the William Shatner extra lunch fee.

In order to reserve places for your teams, the deadline for registration for 7HIT is October 1, 2010. Please contact me or post here to request a copy of registration materials.

We look forward to seeing you on the 29th!

Assuming I don't have to work and my classes haven't killed me yet, I'd be happy to come moderate if you would like Mr. Rutsky

Mr. Rutsky,

Norcross is expressing interest in attending with one team. How long are you taking registrations?
