Wake-Up Call III at Northwestern (10/27/12)

Post by Dan-Don »

Northwestern will host Wake-Up Call III, our annual high school novice tournament, on October 27, 2012. I will be the Tournament Director. To register, please fill out this form.

We are using Invitational Series 121A from NAQT. (Springfield will also be using this set for their JV tournament in January.) We will be following all NAQT rules with a few exceptions: matches will consist of two untimed halves of ten questions each, rosters are capped at six, and math computation questions will be skipped.

The field is currently capped at 18 teams, which will play ten matches followed by finals as necessary. I may also open a separate division for middle school teams. I will post logistical info sometime in September.

In order to make Wake-Up Call III more novice-friendly than last year's event, we will be enforcing the IHSSBCA's definition of a "novice." A player is only eligible for Wake-Up Call III if he or she meets all of the following criteria:

[*] has played fewer than 40 varsity-level matches for his or her school's top team;
[*] has played fewer than 80 career matches at any level;
[*] has never scored more than 35 points per game at a varsity invitational
tournament;
[*] has never scored more than 20 points per game at a national
championship tournament; and
[*] has never been named to an All-Tournament team at any varsity
or frosh/soph high school tournament.

Questions? Post here or email me ([email protected]).

Registered field (FULL) Barrington High School x2, Belvidere North x2, Buffalo Grove x2, Fenton, Fenwick x2, IMSA x3, Loyola Academy x2, New Trier, Rockford Auburn x2, Saint Viator x3, St. Ignatius x3, Whitney Young

IMSA would like to bring 2-3 teams. I'll do the official registration later, but I wanted to give you a heads-up.

I've sent out a few rounds of invitations, and the field is now half-full. Keep those registrations coming. I will have made a decision about a middle school division by October 2.

Field is now full. Next week I will determine if we can increase the field size and/or add a middle school division.

Can we play against middle school teams according to IHSA rules, even in a 4-on-4 format? I'm assuming this would be the same deal as with playing against college teams.

Brad also brought this to my attention. I'm going to have to drop Barrington Station from the field. It's looking more and more likely that we'll be able to have a separate middle school division.

Please keep registrations coming in for the high school division. We may be able to to increase to 24 teams, but we need 5 more teams!

Rockford Auburn may be able to bring one team if you expand the field.

I have 5 teams on the wait list. If we can get one more registration, we could possibly expand to 24 teams, provided we have enough staff.

As of tonight, I have also invited several middle schools to register for a separate middle school division.

We are able to increase to 24 teams. Those spots have been offered to the waitlisted teams, but I will open them up to everyone else if waitlisted teams decline the spots.

We've also been able to add a middle school division comprising Barrington Prairie, Barrington Station A, Barrington Station B, Plum Grove, St. Mary's, and St. Raymond.

You have seemingly uploaded playoffs stats to both the playoffs and middle school link.

IMSA A and IMSA b delined to play a final, so they are the co-champions of Wake-Up Call III.

Barrington-Station defeated St. Raymond in the first game of an advantaged final to the win the middle school division.

Stats are at the above link.

Thanks for a great tournament, Dan! The kids enjoyed it as always, and they love playing on novice high school questions!
