I don't think Cyd reads the boards, but from what she sent me today the Wheaton North site might be full as well.

Loyola now has 10 teams in the competitive division and 24 in the standard division. We also have three teams on the waitlist, so if you know that you cannot field all of the teams that you have committed, please let me know ASAP so that these teams can be added to our tournament.

Loyola Kickoff is being moved to Maine South.

Due to our football team's continued insistence that they are good or something, and that they will be hosting an IHSA semifinal game, we've got to move it. Details about parking and rooms and whatnot will be posted later today.

Can't say I'm mad about the change of location -- Maine South makes for a shorter bus ride.

A few more specific details regarding this Saturday's tournament:

When you arrive at Maine South (1111 S. Dee Road, Park Ridge) please park in the North Lot, by the tennis courts. The only door that will be unlocked is the entrance facing the courts. If you need special accommodations of any kind, please let us know and we will make ourselves available to aid you.

We ask that every team arrive and check-in by 8:30 am. This will be a hard and fast deadline. We will begin the coaches meeting promptly at that time, and we hope to begin moving students out of the cafeteria to game rooms around 8:45. The first round will begin promptly at 9 am.

My now co-host, Tom Egan, will be sending along some details about lunch soon. He can be reached at tegan -at- maine207 -dot- org if you have any questions about the venue.

Lastly, I have not received payment from Auburn, Belvidere North, Barrington, St. Viator, Leyden, Wauconda, or U Chicago Lab. I have also not heard whether or not the following teams can bring buzzers: Whitney Young, Wauconda, U Chicago Lab, Plainfield North, and St. Patrick. Please reply to this email indicating your check's status and your team's buzzer situation.

Thank you so much for your patience and flexibility with this tournament! I know it is going to be a great one!

And indeed it was! Congrats to you, Jonah, and Mr. Egan for running it, and what a final match in the highly competitive division! Belvidere North over Loyola 405-400, with Loyola missing Captain Morgan [ahem] and Belvidere North missing several of their regular players. A nail biter to the end! This is hopefuly a prelude for an exciting season of quiz bowl! Congrats to both Belvidere North and Loyola!

For the Wheaton North site:

In Upper Division
1. Stevenson
2. Wheaton North
T-3 Wheaton Warrenville South
T-3 Metea Valley
5. St. Ignatius
6. Kaneland

Mike Wong will post a more detailed account but WWS and Metea Valley ended up tied with the same record and same PPG in the afternoon. Both teams decided not to play it off which resulted in a tie. Not sure of results for standard.

Thanks Mr. Laird, Mr. Egan and Mr. Greenthal that for putting up a great Kickoff this year. Thanks again for giving PNHS the opportunity to play this year! Being PNHS's first NAQT tourney, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Congrats to all the winners!

What I know about the PORTA kickoffs: we (Macomb) finished 1st (9-0) and Glenwood finished 2nd (8-1). Springfield was 7-2, so I think they were 3rd.

Results from Bloomington:

1. Bloomington (9 - 0)
2. Mahomet-Seymour (8 - 1)
3. Champaign Central (7 - 2)
4. Bradley-Bourbonnais (7 - 2)

Great matches all around, especially in those playoff flights. Congrats to all the players who exhibited some great quiz bowl, and thanks to those who helped staff the tournament.

Small error in stats: Belvidere North A is only listed as having 180 TUH-should be 200. Also Bradley Borbonnais probably didn't hear 270 bonuses in round 1.

Thanks to Maine South and Loyola for running an excellent tournament, I hope the other sites went well and am looking forward to more Illinois tournaments this year!

Did all of these tournaments use the same sets? If so, did anyone else find the powermarking rather liberal? There were several questions that really seemed like power went late.

Jonah will be posting upper division stats later, but we had a 3 way tie for 3rd with Wheaton Warrenville South, Metea Valley and St. Ignatius. The SQBS reports will show that the PPGs were actually different among the teams. This was after I had time to confirm and verify the scoresheets. The teams agreed to not playoff the tie since it was getting late.

For teams that know things, yes. For the teams not in the top brackets, I saw power rates below 1/6.

Unfortunately, as far as I know we can't discuss specific questions, but Bloomington has not really been a very power-y team in the past, so for us to have our tournament's highest number of powers is a tad bit surprising.

Your power rate is comparable with other teams on high school sets with a comparable (a)ppb.

(This is about the combined stats, I haven't really looked at the others.) I don't know if you actually have the SQBS file, but if you do Macomb B has 155 BHrd, but their 15+10 is only 83, and Abe M. has a mysterious 1.0 GP versus Abingdon that shouldn't be there.
