Montgomery County Academic Beltway League

Post by bigtrain »

Now that MoCo's academic beltway league is starting up, I thought I'd post some info which will basically be limited to a list of competing teams, the results of some games some of you may care about and playoff anouncements. The league is run by Walter Johnson's coach, Mark Whipple, and uses very old Quizmaster Challenge questions written by Kevin Keegan. The league features teams from about 75% of the county's public high schools. This is the first year that we have allowed private schools to compete; however only one private school (Bullis) has joined. The schedule and a bit of other info can be found at http://www.angelfire.com/md3/wjqb/mabl.htm
List of competing teams:
Richard Montgomery 2
Walter Johnson 3
Bullis 1
Churchill 1
Gaithersburg 1
Seneca Valley 1
Wheaton 1
Blake 2
Rockville 1
Magruder 1
Wootton 1
Sherwood 1
Damascus 1
Northwest 1
Whitman 2
Springbrook 1
Paint Branch 1
Einstein 1
Kennedy 1

Total: 24 teams

So far some results that may interest you are:
RM 6-0
Blake 6-0 (assuming they were able to take down Kennedy, Sherwood and Seneca Valley  )
WJ 5-1

My team lost to RM today with a score of 435-495.

I understand Blake put up 800 points in one of the games today. Not very sporting, Mike. . .

810 against Sherwood and 775 against Seneca Valley. Similar, but lower, score against Kennedy (I don't remember it.)

Walter Johnson beat Blake today with a score that was something like 540-480. RM A and B are now the only two undefeated teams. I don't know why my coach gave them such an easy schedule (which does not feature RM A, Blake A or WJ A) while slamming us with both Blake and RM A.

RM B won last year. I assume that's why. Still, playoffs will force all of us to play each other, so it doesn't matter that much in the end.
