JAMES @ Stanford University, 5/11/13

Post by nadph »

Stanford University is hosting a mirror of the JAMES high school set, co-written by Thomas Jefferson and LASA. I will be TD. We apologize for the lateness of this announcement; this is entirely my (Nikhil Desai's) fault, as I was remiss in confirming the availability of some rooms and the availability of some staff. Information about the tournament has been communicated through other channels and so we do anticipate nontrivial attendance.

Our tentative fee structure will be as follows:
$70 base
-$20 for teams new to quizbowl
-$10 for each competent staffer
-$10 for each buzzer system.

Registration will be at 9:00 a.m. in Old Union. We anticipate being finished by 5:30 p.m.

Expressed interest:
Bellarmine
Mira Loma
Davis
Los Gatos
Crystal Springs
Challenger-Berryessa
Menlo-Atherton

We intend to run a double round robin followed by an advantaged final. The winning team and the top 4 scorers will receive book prizes.

Escobar won this tournament, going 10-0 to clear the field by 2. Raymond from Escobar was the top scorer. Stats are posted.

Many thanks to Kyle and James from Stanford and Jeff and Scott from Berkeley for helping staff today, to Berkeley and Mills for providing buzzers, to Thomas Jefferson and LASA for writing the well-received set, and to all the teams for making the drive out to play today! And especial thanks to Nicholas Karas from Berkeley, who coordinated signups, let a ton of Bay Area teams know about the event, and generally helped me plan everything out for the tournament.

I hope everyone enjoyed the set.

This is a reminder that the set likely won't be cleared until next fall, so please do not discuss it until then. If you've had any APs yet, substitute in that ridiculous line about not discussing it with friends, family, teachers, and the various members of your Twitter followers.

If, on the other hand, you would like to discuss it with people who have already played and/or will not be playing it, you can join the discussion group. To do so, go to your User Control Panel, find the Usergroups section, find the JAMES group, check the box next to it, and click the button on the page asking to join it. Once I've verified you indeed have already played/won't be playing it, you'll be entered into the group.
