The Paul Laurence Dunbar Academic Team is pleased to announce 2005's

Dunbar Academic Invitational

March 5, 2005, 7:45-4:00:
Paul Laurence Dunbar High School
1600 Man O' War Blvd.
Lexington, Kentucky 40513

Format:
· NAQT
· Varsity and JV Divisions
· Only students who are currently sophomores or younger may play in the JV division.
· Questions: IS-48 (Varsity), IS-47A (JV)

Structure:
· Divisional Round Robin Play - Teams seeded by geography and strength
· Afternoon Single-Elimination Playoff Rounds - Teams seeded by (1) record in the morning rounds (2) average points per game (3) coin flip.

For the winners:
· Top finishers will qualify for the 2005 NAQT HS NCT.
· Trophies awarded in each division.

Fees:
$60/Team

Please bring any working buzzer sets.

The winner of last year’s tournament was Pikeville High School. In past years, participants have included Detroit Catholic Central, Ezell-Harding, DuPont Manual, Russell, Johnson Central, and others.

I simply have two questions:

1. Do you guys have any sort of distance discount?

2. Are you running this in straight tossup-bonus, timed/untimed? I assume the part on your site about four-quarter format is outdated.

sorry to tell u but pikeville will only be bringing a JV team; a few players on the varsity had some last minute committments

it's unfortunate that last yr was my last tournament at dunbar.. i had a great time; and in the same sense, our team wont be able to defend our title; despite that, i'm sure it'll be a great tournament and it seems like a lot of good teams have signed up to come

The tournament brought in a lot of intense competition. Too bad for Brookwood (Atlanta) who traveled all the way to Lexington to find out that they had already had these questions. Probably the best match I've seen all year was between Solon, Ohio and Dupont Manual, Ky. I believe this was in the semis and the score was 480-455 DuPont.
