Alabama teams who can make it should really try to attend ARTIST at WKU on April 5. We run an efficient format that will get teams a lot of games, and this year we're mirroring the excellent LIST question set that is highly regarded for its question quality and accessibility. Teams can do themselves a big service by attending late season tournaments like ARTIST, not only in preparing for end-of-season national tournaments, but in preparing for the next season.

I know the date isn't ideal for everyone, and I wish we could accommodate everybody, but there has to be a decent amount of schools out there who are able to attend our event on April 5. If you have any questions or would like to register, please email us at [email protected]

I really look forward to seeing a lot of you in Bowling Green in a month.

I have to say, I like seeing my old high school (and neighbors) doing so well on the Alabama circuit. Go Titans!

Quick results from Snead State -

1st - Buckhorn
2nd - Hoover

Semis - Gadsden City, West Point
Quarters - Whitesburg Christian (?), Ashville, Arab, Russellville

This was very much an A-set event, with the top schools trading answers well within the power marks on a regular basis. It was a nice, on-time event that really didn't tell me much about what will happen next week at State. It would have been nice to see you guys, Jacob, at least once or twice this year, but I guess the rest of the state will have to wait to see what Grissom's bringing.

The state tournament from today!

1st- Gadsden
2nd- Grissom
3rd- Randolph
4th- Hoover

Final series was super close, Gadsen won by a good margin the first game, we beat them by a good margin the second game, and then they beat us in a nailbiter in the final of a best-of-three. Any one question could have changed it. I'm disappointed that this group of seniors couldn't bring home a first, but congrats to Gadsden.

IIRC, the other from the top 8 were West Point, Spain Park, Buckhorn, and Altamont

If anyone is interested in forming an Alabama NASAT team, please let me know via email or PM. This promises to be the biggest and best NASAT yet, and HSAPQ is very interested in having a team from Alabama attend.

Congrats to West Point for their performance at small school nationals. What was the question set like?

I'm not sure if the set is cleared for discussion or not. I will say that we were perhaps over-preparing. What I mean is that we were expecting questions a little more like HSNCT and they definitely were not. The set was very well written and very fun to play, but were very easy compared to HSNCT or even prepared to Div.II sectionals.

Also, there were some stylistic differences in some of the questions that made us wonder if NAQT is going into a new direction in regards to Literature tossups. I'll go more into detail when I'm sure that the set is ok to discuss.

By all means, order the set for practice material. It was one of the best sets I've heard. But, the difficulty is nowhere near that of HSNCT.

Also, in true West Point style, we didn't put up very impressive stats - but we just kept winning. We beat teams that look far superior to us on paper.

Also, the top teams at this tournament were amazing.

Not speaking in any official capacity, but the set seemed around IS-set or slightly harder than IS-set difficulty to me.

SSNCT is not clear for discussion (there is a tournament this weekend using the set for large schools in Michigan, where we are sold out of IS sets by this time of year). It's also possible there may be additional such uses of the set next fall.

Hello everyone! I'll be traveling to Alabama this summer for about a week, June 22-28, to attend a geography education institute in Florence.

If anyone is in/around that area and would be interested in talking quiz bowl over a quick meal sometime, let me know in a PM/email. I don't know how much free time I will have but I just wanted to throw it out there

Players from AL interested in possibly competing in this year's NASAT should please e-mail or PM me. Plans will be made based on interest and travel feasibility. Coaches with a desire to travel to this event should also contact me.

Alabama and other southeastern coaches and players are also reminded that ACE will be holding their first camp in Tuscaloosa this year, and that registration remains open. If you want to compete at the highest levels of quiz bowl, you really need to take advantage of opportunities to get practice and quality review like this.
