MA Quizbowl Championship @ MIT (4/5/14)

Post by Mewto55555 »

HSAPQ, in conjunction with the Massachusetts Quizbowl Championship Association, is pleased to announce our Massachusetts Quizbowl Championship at MIT on April 5, 2014! This tournament will feature the top 6 finishing teams at each of the regional tournaments at Amherst and Harvard on March 8.

Both the regional events and the Massachusetts Quizbowl Championship will use HSAPQ’s 8-8-8 format: a first and third period of 8 powermarked tossups followed by a one-part bonus read to the team whose player correctly answered the tossup, and a second period of 8 directed bonus parts, 4 for each team. This format is designed to provide quicker-moving games to keep new teams engaged, piquing their interest in quizbowl and drawing them to regular local events.

To register for your nearest regional tournament, or to find out more information, please visit http://www.maquizbowl.com/!

If a team qualifies for this tournament, how can it register? I don't see any registration options available for this tournament on the maquizbowl website yet.

Teams were notified of qualification by email shortly after the regional tournaments and asked to register by responding. All qualifiers in MA have done so.

This happened. Sharon took home the championship on a tiebreaker tossup in the second game of an advantaged final, while AMSA came in second. Acton-Boxborough at third and Lexington at fourth completed the top four.

There was a lot of intense competition from the top of the field to bottom today. Thanks to everyone for coming!

Our team felt the same way. Was there a predefined distribution for this set?

Also, will the NASAT roster be posted on this page?

The following distribution was used:

Literature 3.5/5
History 3.5/5
Science 4/5
Arts 1.5/2
RMP 1/1
Geography 1/1
Social Science (incl. Foreign Language) .5/.5
Current Events 1/.5
Trash 1/2
Computational Math 0/3

Note that the bonus numbers are higher because they include both the bonuses attached to tossups and the eight bonuses in the second period.

Results/stats will be up soon; please remember not to discuss the set, as there are other mirrors of it to be played.

I definitely noticed the emphasis on science in this specific set.
