UAIS Spring Invitational #1 (May 10, 2014)

The Utica Academy for International Studies is excited to be hosting Macomb County's 1st NAQT Invitational and the first major Academic tournament held in the county in over a decade.

The Utica Academy for International Studies in Sterling Heights, Michigan will be hosting the inaugural UAIS Spring Invitational on Saturday, May 10, 2014. This tournament will use questions from NAQT's SSNCT which takes place the week before-as such, any teams participating in that competition are ineligible for entry to this tournament. There are no qualifying requirements for this tournament. We have an initial field cap of 24, but that may be limited or expanded due to the number of staffers available. Additionally, we are setting an initial limit of 2 teams per school.

TOURNAMENT RULES & FORMAT
The format of this tournament is yet to be determined and will depend on the field size. This tournament may or may not be timed depending on the number of staffers. Teams will be guaranteed at least 8 matches.

FEES:
Tournament fees are as follows:
First team: $85
Additional teams: $65

DISCOUNTS
Discount for a fully functional buzzer system (max 1 per team entered) -$10
Discount for a staffer -$10/staffer (Competent Readers only)
Early bird discount for registering by 5:00 PM, April 4th, 2014 -$5
New program discount** -$10/team (If your team has not previously entered an NAQT tournament)
Distance discount (100-275 miles)*** -$10/team
Extreme distance discount (over 275 miles)*** -$50/team
Minimum entry fee per team $0

*** Distances are determined as based on distance one way from your school to the tournament site according to maps.google.com.

Checks should be made out to "Utica Community Schools" While we prefer that you bring them to the tournament and hand them in at registration, if this is not possible, you can mail the check to:

Thanks to everyone that came out today. Catholic Central A, B and C captured the top three spots in order with UAIS rounding out the top 4 in the Championship bracket. In the Championship match, DCC-A defeated DCC-B 625-240 and DCC-C defeated UAIS-A 385-335. In the second bracket, DCD A took 1st and in the final bracket, Eisenhower High School finished on top. Congratulations to everyone on a great day.
