Vanderbilt ABC XXIX - April 16, 2005

Post by vandyhawk »

VUQB is pleased to officially announce ABC XXIX will be held on April 16, 2005 in beautiful Nashville. It will continue the tradition of spring tournaments being a single day, and will most likely feature separate varsity and JV divisions playing bracketed round robins followed by single elimination playoffs. For the full announcement, see http://www.vanderbilt.edu/college_bowl/ABCXXIXinfo.html. Also be sure to see http://www.vanderbilt.edu/college_bowl/ ... 20Info.htm for additional information like parking, hotels, food, etc. Hope to see many of you in April.

Updated field appears above. Also a reminder that the official registration deadline is tomorrow, though we can probably take registrations through Monday. After that, we may not be able to accomodate any more teams.

Thanks to all the teams who came yesterday for a fun, competitive tournament. It was by far the smoothest-running tournament we've had in a while - starting pretty much on time and finishing by 5:00, even with a wrong match being played in the first playoff round and my having to read two rounds in the time of others doing one. Some more varsity results:

Quarterfinals:
(1) Dorman A def. (8) duPont Manual
(2) DCC def. (7) Madisonville North Hopkins
(11) Dorman B def. (3) James Island
(4) Brookwood def. (5) Daviess Co.

Adding scores in to the last couple rounds...
Semis:
(1) Dorman A def (4) Brookwood 270-190
(2) DCC def. (11) Dorman B 410-120

Finals:
(1) Dorman A def. (2) DCC 275-145

Congratulations to Dorman A, who seemed pretty determined to defend their fall title, and to DCC for their fine performance in their first varsity appearance here in a while (after dominating JV last year). Dorman B went on quite a run in the playoffs too, upsetting Pikeville and James Island.

The only results for JV I have handy are as follows:
Semis:
(4) Ezell-Harding def. (1) DCC 195-160
(3) Dunbar A def. (2) Mad'ville NH

Finals:
Dunbar A def. Ezell-Harding 160-150

Full results for both divisions will be posted on our web page once I get the SQBS file from the guy who kept JV stats.

Super well-run tournament. It was the best run college-sponsored tournament I have ever attended in my 25+ years of coaching. Congrats to Dorman!
