Minnesota 2014-2015

Post by Strongside »

Here is a tentative schedule for the season.

Most of these tournaments are listed on the quiz bowl database. I did not list any of the Thursday league tournaments on the database.

The best way to see them all on one page is to go to the following link.

http://www.hsquizbowl.org/db/tournament ... =&enddate=

Some of these tournaments have not been officially announced, or do not have all the details posted yet. Coaches and teams should make sure to check dates, locations, questions sets, eligibility rules, etc.

I created most of the tournament entries on the database, and can transfer ownership.

I did not include national tournaments, and open dates before October 25th, and after March 14th for now.

I updated the first post with some more information.

One thing to note is that History Bowl is scheduled for January 31st at the University of Minnesota.

If any Minnesota high school players or coaches are interested in improving at quiz bowl, you can let me and/or some of the other Minnesota people on the forums know. It would be awesome if Minnesota high school quiz bowl became more competitive.

History Bowl (B set) is currently scheduled for April 4th at Roseville.

http://www.historybowl.com/minnesota-2/

There will be a separate high school and middle school tournament (if there is enough interest).

The University of Minnesota is hosting the Minnesota Undergraduate Tournament on April 11, 2015. This tournament is open to high schoolers. The difficulty is similar to HSNCT and PACE NSC.

Both of these tournaments would be great prep for nationals.

History Bowl for this weekend at Roseville is on. The deadline to register has passed, but it still might be possible to sign up.

MUT is on April, 11th. In addition to being great prep for HSNCT, it would be a great way to support the University of Minnesota quiz bowl team, as well as the writers and editors (most of whom have Minnesota connections).

A couple other reasons to play.

ACF will only be for college students starting in 2015-2016.

I get the impression that it is possible that MUT in what could be considered its current incarnation might not continue past this year (someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong).

Burnsville is hosting an open tournament on April, 18th.

The current plan is for one division to use NAQT IS #144, and the other division to use a to be determined easier NAQT set.

To be clear, this tournament is a true open tournament, in the sense that anyone who has otherwise not seen or had access to the question sets can play.

I have been in touch with David Madden, and he has offered to allow teams to participate in a potential Minnesota History Bowl Tournament for free. The bowl, bee, and the exams would all be free.

NHBB has not been able to find a host yet, so if anyone is interested in hosting they can contact me or David.

The dates available would be March 19th, March 26th, April 2nd, and April 9th.
