Blair Spring Tournament – Silver Spring, MD, 03/21/2014
Montgomery Blair High School is pleased to announce the revived Blair Spring Tournament on Saturday, March 21st, 2015!
Location
Montgomery Blair High School is located at 51 University Blvd East, Silver Spring, MD 20901, between US-29 and the Capitol Beltway.
Format
Teams will be seeded into round-robin preliminary groupings and then rebracketed into playoff groups. All teams will be guaranteed a minimum of 9 games. The field is hard-capped at 24 teams due to room availability.
Questions
This tournament will mirror this year’s BHSAT set, produced by members of the Yale University quizbowl team. You can find more details about the set at: viewtopic.php?f=109&t=16128
Fees
The fee structure is as follows:
Base fee: $70 for a first team, $65 for all subsequent teams
-$5 for each fully functional buzzer system with a control box and min. 8 units (no limit)
-$10 for each experienced moderator
-$10 for each 150 miles traveled one-way between your school’s address and Montgomery Blair High School according to Google Maps.
Minimum fee: $50
Method of Payment
All teams must pay by the day of the tournament. We prefer to accept payment in person right before the tournament starts, but we will accept checks by mail ahead of time if your procedures require it. Teams who do not pay by the day of the tournament will be charged a $25 penalty and will have two weeks to pay their total amount before we notify your school administration.
We can accept cash, personal checks, or checks from school, school district, or quizbowl club funds. We have no ability to process purchase orders, credit cards, Paypal, or any other forms of payment. Bringing forms of payment outside of the three listed will be considered nonpayment and subject you to the $25 late payment penalty.
If paying by check, please make checks out to “MBHS” with “It’s Academic” in the memo line. If you require a pre-tournament invoice in order to have a check cut, let us know by February 28th so we can provide you with the appropriate paperwork.
Team & Roster Size
There may be a maximum of six players on one team's roster, up to four of whom may play at one time. If you bring more than six players, you must register a second team to have all of them play. Each player may appear on only one team's roster throughout the day-no switching from the B team to the A team, etc. Teams may also play shorthanded with fewer than four players.
Food
Neither breakfast or lunch will be provided at this tournament. We will provide a list and map of local lunch options, all of which are within walking distance.
To register, please email Arjuna Subramanian at [email protected] with the number of teams you are entering and the discounts you are claiming. Forum posts expressing interest are welcome, but registration must be received by email to be official. Updates to the field will be posted to this thread regularly.

Re: Blair Spring Tournament – Silver Spring, MD, 03/21/2014
This tournament happened:
Richard Montgomery won both games of a disadvantaged final to take first place, with Maggie Walker coming in second. Quince Orchard A was third, Centennial A was fourth, Loudon County was fifth, and George Mason was sixth, to round out the top bracket.
Thank you to all the teams and staffers who helped make Blair's first tournament in four years a success!
Stats should be posted within the next 48 hours, barring any unforeseen technical difficulties on my part.

Re: Blair Spring Tournament – Silver Spring, MD, 03/21/2014
RM had a great time at this tournament. 12 rounds by 5:30 was excellent, especially since there were a couple of rooms that made the morning move slowly (5 rounds in 3.5 hrs hurts a bit). I would especially like to thank Mr. Schafer for an excellent job TD'ing even with some issues from home on his mind (feel better Schafer family), and I look forward to seeing many of the same people I saw yesterday next week at our tournament.
