Triton Spring V (05/16/2015) @ UCSD [DII SCT]

UC-San Diego Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce our traditional season-ender, Triton Spring V at UCSD on Saturday, May 16:

LOCATION: 9500 Gilman Dr., La Jolla, California, 92093.

The tournament will take place on the UCSD campus, with the exact location to be determined. We will send out additional information to registered teams as the tournament approaches by contact email, the SoCalQB Facebook group, and this post as soon as possible.

DATE: The tournament will be held on Saturday, May 16. Check-in begins at 8:00 am, and first round should begin around 9 am. Schedules will be distributed at check-in.

FORMAT: The tournament will mirror NAQT Division 2 SCT, which is a bit harder than our usual high school tournaments, a difficulty we hope is suitable for an end-of-season tournament. The tournament will adhere to Official NAQT Rules, with the exception that each round will be run as two untimed, 10-question halves and you will be given 5 seconds to answer after buzzing on a tossup.

ELIGIBILITY: All high school students are welcome to attend; however, we are hosting Triton Pre-Nationals Tournament on Sunday, May 24 the week after, which should be a good approximation of nationals difficulty. We are also adding a discount for that tournament--if we have accepted you into the field for Triton Pre-Nats on Sunday, May 24 and you send two members of a team attending Triton Pre-Nats (Sunday, May 24) to staff Triton Spring V (Saturday, May 16), then you will receive an $80 discount for Triton Pre-Nats.

PRICING STRUCTURE:
Base fee = $80 for one team, $70 per team after the first

Discounts will be given as follows:
-$5 for each fully-functional buzzer system (must have at least four working buzzers on both sides)
-$10 for traveling distances over 100 miles, according to Google Maps
-$10 for providing a capable staffer (staffers claiming the Triton Pre-Nats discount cannot also claim this discount)
-$40 for any team that has not played a decent mACF tournament in the last two years

Please make checks payable to San Diego Quizbowl. Please do not make a check out to any other person or entity. Checks, or cash will be due at the start of the tournament during registration. Should your team not be able to provide the payment at this time, and would like to send their registration fee in advance or later, please contact the Tournament Director at [email protected] to make the proper arrangements.

PRIZES: Book prizes will be offered to the top teams, as well as to the top individual scorers. In addition, the name of the top scorer will be engraved into the David Hu Memorial plaque in honor of David Hu of Rancho Bernardo High School, who sadly passed away in January 2012 in his senior year.

Thanks, everyone, for attending! The tournament ran extremely well in spite of my best efforts to prevent it from doing so, and we got 10 and 13 rounds done for all the teams at exactly 5 PM. Congratulations Torrey Pines A for winning it all, 12-1!
