PHSAT XXIII at Princeton (9/26/15)
Princeton University Quiz Bowl is pleased to announce Princeton High School Academic Tournament (PHSAT) XXIII, which will take place on Saturday, Semptember 26th, 2015 using NAQT IS-148. The structure of the tournament will depend on the number of teams that sign-up, but it will almost certainly be some variation on the theme of brackets of round-robin prelims followed by round-robin playoffs and consolation brackets after lunch. We will be using the rules enumerated here (https://www.naqt.com/rules.html) except in that we will not time our matches (they will simply consist of twenty toss-ups) and in that we will skip any computational math questions.
We will open registration at 8 am in McCosh Hall, Room 10 on the Princeton University campus. We hope to start our moderator meeting by 8:45 and the first match by 9:15.
The cost structure will be as follows (please make out all checks to Princeton University Quiz Bowl):
$80 / first team
$60 / every additional team
$50 minimum fee per school
We will also be offering the following discounts:
- $15 / experienced moderator with laptop for the purpose of electronic scorekeeping
- $10/ experienced moderator without laptop
- $5 / buzzer set
Note: Scorekeeping at PHSAT XXIII will be done with spreadsheets on Google Drive. Ideally, a single person will act as both moderator and scorekeeper, but those without laptops will be paired with a Princeton staffer with one. Alternatively, schools can bring both a moderator and a scorekeeper with a computer, which will garner a single "moderator with laptop discount." Scorekeepers will not garner a discount otherwise.
If you are interested in participating, please fill out the following registration form:
https://docs.google.com/a/princeton.edu ... c/viewform
We will have an initial field cap of 36 teams, but if we have sufficient interest and staffing capability we will consider expanding the field. We will also be restricting each school to four teams each. If we still have room as the tournament date approaches, we may consider lifting that cap as well.
We hope to see you all on campus on the 26th.
Field (34 of 36) as of 9/22 (teams, moderators, buzzers)
Lehigh Valley Academy (1/0/1)
Charter School of Wilmington (3/0/4)
Hunter College High School (2/0/2)
Middlesex County Academy (3/0/0)
Bethlehem Central (1/0/1)
East Brunswick (3/1/1)
Henderson (2/2/1)
Biotechnology High School (2/0/0)
MAST (2/1/0)
Livingston (4/2/1)
High Technology High School (2/0/3)
State College Area High School (2/0/2)
Camp Hill High School (1/1/1)
Pingry (2/0/0)
Kellenberg (2/1/3)
St. Joseph's (2/0/2)
Pending response: Concord

Re: PHSAT XXIII at Princeton (9/26/15)
For field for PHSAT XXIII is currently full. The registration form will remain open however, because I have yet to see a tournament in which absolutely no team that originally signed up cancels. The waitlist will prioritize schools that have not signed up any teams yet over schools that wish to sign up an additional team.

Any update on the field for the PHSAT? For example, have you expanded the field at all? Have any teams dropped out? Curious here in Metuchen.

Re: PHSAT XXIII at Princeton (9/26/15)
Wilmington Charter will be dropping a team and a buzzer. If a Princeton team member could send our coach an updated invoice, we'd be very appreciative. Thanks!Edward Powers wrote:Any update on the field for the PHSAT? For example, have you expanded the field at all? Have any teams dropped out? Curious here in Metuchen.

Hunter will unfortunately have to drop a team as well (making us (2/0/2)).Edward Powers wrote:Any update on the field for the PHSAT? For example, have you expanded the field at all? Have any teams dropped out? Curious here in Metuchen.

Middlesex County Academy will have to drop a buzzer and a moderator, making us (3/0/0)

Re: PHSAT XXIII at Princeton (9/26/15)
In the crossover semifinal, I believe Bethlehem is playing Hunter B and High Tech A is playing East Brunswick A.

To be more specific, Bethlehem beat High Tech for 1st and East Brunswick beat Hunter B (who are shockingly good!) for 3rd. Combined stats are here.

Re: PHSAT XXIII at Princeton (9/26/15)
I should probably mention here that some of the bracket names in the stats are different from the ones we used day of because some of the original names were too long for SQBS. Sorry to anyone that's disappointed. Anyway thank you all for coming!
