Brookline (MA) Spring Rookie Tournament II - 5/21/16

Post by acgfried »

Brookline High School is pleased to announce the second running of the Brookline Spring Rookie Tournament (BSRT), to be held on Saturday, May 21st 2016. The goal for BSRT is to grow involvement in quiz bowl amongst schools in the Greater Boston Area, as well as New England as a whole. Additionally, we envision BSRT serving as an entry point for new players from established schools. We define “new players” as individuals who are in their first or second year of competition (though, honestly, we trust that individual players should be to able to accurately self-identify as "novice-level"). We believe that a spring competition for new players will help generate interest in the 2016-17 season and get more students involved.

QUESTION SET:
We will be using the NAQT set IS-155A, running untimed rounds of 20 tossups each (with accompanying bonuses).

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
To register, please email [email protected] with the following information:
• Number of teams you are registering
• Number of experienced staffers you are bringing (we encourage veteran players to moderate for the newcomers)
• Number of functioning buzzer systems you are bringing
• Name, email address, and phone number for your team’s contact person
On the day of the tournament we will run sign-in from 9:00am to 9:30am with the aim of starting the first round at 9:45am.

FEES & DISCOUNTS:
+$70 for first team from a school
+$50 for every additional team from that school

-$10 per experienced staffer (veteran players, we’re looking at you!)
-$5 per functioning buzzer system

Minimum fee: $0 per school

LOCATION & TRANSPORTATION:
Brookline High School is located at 115 Greenough Street, Brookline, MA 02445.
Our campus is conveniently located at the Brookline Hills stop on the D branch of the Green Line. There is ample street parking, and the school is just off of Route 9 and a few minutes from I-90 and I-95.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
We hope to see you in May!

We're a little less than four weeks out from Brookline Spring Rookie Tournament. Now is a great time to register if you're thinking about bringing a team or two.

Hi Adam,
I would like to send my son Rhys Harris (Plymouth Regional H.S., Plymouth, NH) to this tournament, but I have a softball game to coach that day and so I don't have a coach that I know of that will be driving down (our other coach is also working). He may just come with his mom and be a solo team. Would that still be acceptable? He is really excited about coming up to the high school next year and competing. He got a bit of the quiz bowl scene this year as an eighth grader and this type of tournament would be really good for him.
