The Darien High School Quiz Bowl Team is pleased to invite your team to Darien Invitational III on October 21st, 2017 at Darien High School (80 High School Lane, Darien, CT). The tournament will use our housewrite DEFT (Darien’s Excellent Fall Tournament), which is aimed to be slightly below regular difficulty and accessible to new teams (more information on the set can be found here.) This is an excellent opportunity for new players or novice teams to experience quiz bowl; we may add a JV division if there is sufficient interest.
The opening meeting for the tournament will start at 8:45 am, and we aim on having the tournament finish by 5 pm. We will be serving a light breakfast in the morning. As there are no lunch options close by, teams can purchase pizzas for lunch for $15 each.
The format of games will be two halves, each consisting of 10 tossups and bonuses. There will be no computational math.
The field will have a soft cap of 24 teams (pending moderator and buzzer availability). Darien will not be fielding any house teams.
The fee structure will be:
$75 for the first team from a school
$70 for additional teams
-$5 for a working buzzer system
-$10 for an experienced moderator
$15 per pizza
To register, please email [email protected] with the numbers of teams, buzzers, and moderators you will be bringing, as well as any pizzas you will be ordering. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you may have. We hope to see you on the 21st!
