WKU Hilltopper Invitational (Bowling Green, KY; 11/18/2017)
Posted: Mon Sep 25, 2017 12:10 pm
I am happy to announce the eighth annual Hilltopper Invitational Tournament, to be hosted on the campus of Western Kentucky University on Saturday, November 18th. This is our traditional fall tournament, open to any interested high school teams. We hope to have a competitive field of teams from Kentucky and middle Tennessee (and perhaps beyond!) once again this year.
This year, we are mirroring RMBCT (details about the set here). Format will be standard 20/20 quizbowl, with powers/negs and non-bounceback three-part bonuses.
Location and Time:
Nearly all of our past tournaments have taken place in Cherry Hall, and there is a good chance that will remain true for this one. I will update this area once we determine the location for certain.
Regarding time, we would like teams to arrive between 8:00 and 8:45 AM. Our opening meeting will occur at 8:45 or immediately following the arrival of all teams, whichever comes first. Round 1 will begin no later than 9:00 AM, probably 5-10 minutes after the opening meeting begins. Please note that Bowling Green is located in the Central Time Zone, so make plans accordingly. Lunch will occur at roughly noon, probably after Round 5.
Field Size:
We are going to initially set a soft field cap of 20 teams, but if we have sufficient demand and the staffers to handle that demand, we will raise the cap accordingly. We are also going to limit schools to two teams for now, but schools may indicate conditional interest in bringing more teams, which will be handled via waitlist.
Base fee: $70 for a school's first team
$60 for each subsequent team
Discounts:
Buzzers: -$5 per working system
Moderator: -$10 per moderator (check with us first)
New school (has not competed in last two years): -$10
Travel: -$10 per 150 miles (one way)
Minimum fee: $40 per team
Payment:
We will accept either cash or check on the morning of the tournament. Further instructions (along with an invoice) will be given upon registration.
Registration:
Please send an email to [email protected], and indicate the number of teams you plan to bring, as well as any discounts that apply.
Any other questions may be posted in this thread, or you can shoot us an email. I look forward to seeing everyone on November 18th!
