2017 Autumn Classic at the University of Michigan 12/2/17

Post by Kilroy Was Here »

Michigan Academic Competitions is pleased to again be hosting its annual Autumn Classic, which will take place on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017.

Please note that we will be having an initial field cap of 32 teams; the cap may increase depending on the availability of staffers. Nevertheless, it is in your best interest to register as early as possible!

Location and Schedule
We will begin registration at 8:15 a.m. and hold a meeting for players and coaches at 8:45 a.m. Rounds will begin at 9:00 a.m. and continue through the morning and early afternoon with a lunch break around 1:00 p.m. Playoffs and a brief awards ceremony will follow, and we expect to finish no later than 6:00 p.m., although we usually are done by 5. The tournament will be held on the second floor of Mason Hall on the University of Michigan’s Central Campus, just like in years past. More specifics on this will be sent out as the tournament date approaches.

The tournament schedule will incorporate a pooled round robin for preliminary play, after which teams that qualify for the playoffs will play in a double elimination bracket.

Question Set
We will be using NAQT's IS-172. As a result, teams entering the 2017 Autumn Classic will have a chance to qualify for the 2017 NAQT High School National Championship Tournament.

We will be following NAQT rules, except we will be skipping computational math tossups. If we get a sufficiently large amount of staffers, we will run timed rounds.

Fees and Discounts

+$90: first team
+$70: each additional team from a school
-$10: discount for a fully functioning buzzer system (max 2 per school)
-$5: early bird discount for registering by 5 PM, November 13th (discount is per team registered)
-$10: new program discount** (discount is per team registered)
-$10: distance discount for 100-275 miles driven*** (discount is per team registered)
-$50: extreme distance discount for over 275 miles driven*** (discount is per team registered)
Minimum entry fee per team is $0

** If your school has not participated in a University of Michigan tournament within the past two years, then you are eligible for this discount.
*** Distances are determined as based on distance one way from your school to the tournament site according to maps.google.com.

Checks should be made out to "Michigan Academic Competitions." While we prefer that you bring them to the tournament and hand them in at registration, if this is not possible, you can mail the check to:

Registration
To register, please us the form linked below. No other forms of registration (e-mail) will be accepted.

Registration is now closed. Further registrations will go on the waitlist and will receive priority over additional teams from already represented schools.

Hi everyone!

Thank you to everyone who attended this tournament and who helped run it. I hope everyone had a great time.

This tournament was won by Detroit Catholic Central A, who won the first game of an advantaged final against DCC B. Taking third place was Okemos.

Prelim stats are up now, while playoff stats will be up tonight when I put in the remaining games from round 10.
