MSU Fall Kickoff Tournament 10/13

Post by brianamagin »

The MSU Academic Competition Club is excited to hold our first high school tournament of the season on October 13. We will be running the WHAQ III set. This is a high school regular difficulty set and I believe it will be good preparation for Michigan teams advaincing on to other tournaments.

The tournament will be at Berkey Hall unless I get notice otherwise. This is the same building that many of our other high school events have been held at previously. The tournament will start before 9 am and there will be at least 10 rounds depending on what works with the field size. Though we are not running NAQT questions, we will be using NAQT rules on untimed rounds.

The initial field cap is 24 teams. We would like to have as many teams as possible so getting more rooms shouldn't be a problem.
The payment structure is as follows:
$75 - First team
$65 - Second team from a school and on
-$20 - New to quizbowl (no teams from your school have attended a pyramidal quizbowl tournament in the last two years-- let us know if you qualify for this)
-$10 - WORKING buzzer system (If the system is broken, we will revoke this discount. Additionally, if your school said they were bringing a buzzer and didn't, we will ask for the discount back.)
-$10 - Travel over 100 miles one way, as determined by Google maps
-$20 - Experienced moderator (We would appreciate it if we could have more moderators so we could expand the field)
-$5 – Paying for the tournament the day of in cash. Please tell us ahead of time if you plan to pay in cash.
Minimum fee per team: $30

Please pay us by cash or check made out to “MSU Academic Competition Club” on October 13. Tell us if your team needs an invoice or you need to mail a check before the tournament. We will try to give all the teams invoices the day of the tournament. Please notify us if your team plan to pay after the tournament so we can get that process started ASAP.

Register by emailing [email protected] and please indicate how many teams your school is planning to bring and any discounts you believe you are eligible for. We hope this a great beginning of the season event and I personally look forward to seeing teams in East Lansing.

UPDATE: We are removing the team cap for this tournament because we have not had many teams sign up so far. So if your school would like to sign up more than two teams, just let us know!

Seeing as the 13th is coming up pretty quick, is there any chance of a field update for schools that are looking to register/register additional teams?

Just posted an update, also updated that we have no team cap so schools are welcome to send more than two teams without being on a waitlist.

Thanks for playing the WHAQ III set, everybody! As the set is not clear, please join the "2018 WHAQ Discussion" private group if you want to discuss the set. (Go to your user control panel, click on usergroups, then find "2018 WHAQ Discussion" and join it)
