DNE II at Del Norte High School (12/8/18)

This year, Del Norte Quizbowl will proudly be hosting our second annual Del Norte Edgehog (DNE II) Winter Tournament on December 8, 2018! It is a two-division tournament and will use the IS-180A and IS-181 sets. If you have any questions, feel free to email [email protected].

TIMINGS: Check-in will be at 8:15, and rounds will start at 9:00. The tournament should end before 5:00.

LOCATION: This tournament will take place in J and G buildings at Del Norte High School (16601 Nighthawk Ln, San Diego, CA 92127). Check-in for Varsity will be in R501 and check-in for JV will be in R502. The check-in rooms are in the very back of the school. ELIGIBILITY: San Diego City Academic League and Sweetwater Academic League schools are ineligible for this tournament, due to an overlap in questions. In addition, players with a 50+ ppg at a JV tournament, a 30+ ppg at a Varsity tournament, or a 10+ ppg at a national tournament will not be eligible to play in the JV division. Player eligibilities may be subject to the tournament director’s discretion.

An email will be sent 1-2 weeks before the tournament, confirming your registration. Registration will end on 12/1, a week before the tournament date. All other teams will be waitlisted.

PRICING: For returning schools:
$90 for the first team
$80 for each team thereafter

However, if you sign up before 11/27, a discount of $10 per team will be provided. Payment MUST be provided by check, as per new Del Norte regulations. Please make the check to DNHS ASB with Del Norte Quizbowl written on the memo line.

Teams of more than 6 players will not be accepted for both new and returning teams.

DISCOUNTS:
- $10 per team for signing up before 11/27
- $5 per working buzzer system (for at least eight players)
- $10 per moderator that provides their own laptop or tablet
- $5 per 50 miles traveled one-way per team, calculated using Google Maps from your school to Del Norte.
-$40 for any school composed entirely of students that have not competed at a quizbowl tournament before the 2018–19 school year.

MINIMUM FEES:
$50 for each regular team
$40 for each new school team

FOOD: There are a couple plazas nearby (including the 4S Commons), with restaurants such as Wendy’s, Flippin’ Pizza, Jamba Juice, Starbucks, and Chipotle. Light breakfast will be provided.

PRIZES: Prizes will be awarded to both top teams and top individual scorers.

FORMAT: A round-robin preliminary in the morning will be followed by a round-robin playoff in the afternoon. Seedings in the individual sub-brackets will be determined by the overall win-loss record. Ties across brackets will be broken by average points per bonus and ties within brackets will be broken by average points per game. There will be a soft 36-team field cap for the tournament.
