ATTN: Team Ohio: I need the chaperone/primary team contact for your teams to email me. Tyler Benedict's email is set up to be away until August, so unless he's still checking that, the info needs to be going somewhere.

Congratulations to our champion, Illinois A! Illinois clinched their fourth straight NASAT championship with a 330-215 win against Ohio A in the final. Govind Prabhakar lead Illinois in points in the final with 50 points, while Ethan Ashbrook scored 30. Hari Parameswaran went 5-2 to score 40 points in the loss. Ohio A finished second.

Texas defeated New Jersey in the third place game, 330-205. Texas was paced by William Golden's forty points, with each player contributing at least 20 points. Dean Ah Now led New Jersey with 35 points. New Jersey finished fourth.

Illinois B won fifth place by defeating Maryland White in a half-packet game, 155-100. Sophie Netzel scored 30 points, while Tim Cho added 20 for the Illinois side. Maryland White earned a spot in that tiebreaker and sixth place by defeating Virginia A, 155-90, in the preceding half-packet tiebreaker behind two tossups from both Olivia Chen and Derek Chu.

Congratulations to all of the teams at this weekend's tournament!

A NASAT private discussion forum has been opened. You can access it by going to your User Control Panel, going to the tab Usergroups, and then scrolling down to 2019 NASAT and selecting the option to request access to that forum.

Since no one has commented about how the tournament went, and I had voiced some strong opinions about the tournament beforehand, I think it is fair that I give my thoughts on the tournament after it has happened,

I would like to first start off by saying that I had a tremendous time at NASAT this year. I think this year's event was an improvement on all fronts from last year's. The set this year was fantastic, and the tournament ran much smoother. I would like to commend IQBT for hosting a great tournament and to thank everyone who came out to make it possible.

The one thing I would like to return to though, is the topic of the moderation staff of this tournament. I would first like to say that I thought the moderation was noticeably better this year, and I was happy to see many familiar faces of highly experienced moderators. The one thing I would like to criticize though, is about this point that was made earlier:
jonpin wrote: Sat Dec 15, 2018 10:13 pm I also think there may be a bit of a gap between "the quality of moderator I expect at a national championship my team is paying $100+ a person for" and "this person should never be allowed to read quiz bowl questions again".
While there were some moderators of quality that I would expect at a national championship, there were also some that I did not think were quite up to snuff. This isn't a criticism of any particular person or even a group of people; it is a criticism that I just don't believe Lexington has a qualified enough staffer pool to be hosting national championships. While I know that the UIUC bid was ultimately not satisfactory enough to IQBT, I would heavily encourage IQBT to find a different location for future iterations of NASAT if their goal is providing a quality national championship tournament.

I'm behind on NASAT things due to a variety of non-quiz bowl issues, but I encourage anyone with feedback to email me at [email protected] with feedback on moderators or anything else related to this year's NASAT.
