James Blair Bowl IV @ William & Mary (2/15/2020) - Williamburg, VA

This is the official announcement for the College of William & Mary’s 2020 high school tournament, James Blair Bowl IV. The tournament will be held at William & Mary in Williamsburg, VA on February 15th 2020.

Question Set

As with previous iterations of the tournament, JBB IV will be a house-write written and edited by members of the William & Mary Quizbowl team. The format is the standard 20 tossups/20 bonuses with the following distribution:

• 4/4 History

• 4/4 Literature

• 4/4 Science

• 2/2 Fine arts

• 3/3 RMPSS

• 1/1 Misc. Art/Social Science

• 1/1 Geography/Current Events

• 1/1 Trash

Tossups will be power-marked, and for the first time, JBB IV will have bounce-backs. The target difficulty level is high school plus, but the tournament is open to any high school teams.

Registration

Fees for JBB IV will be $70 per team.
There will be a $5 discount for every functional buzzer system brought by a school.
There will be a $10 discount for every school that must travel more than 150 miles one way to attend the tournament.
There will be a $5 discount for every staffer provided by a school.
The minimum fee is $50.

If your school plans to bring staffers, there will be a cap of two staffers from any one school. Staffers are expected to bring a laptop to keep score and stay throughout most of the tournament.

All teams must pay by the morning of the tournament when you check in. Cash is preferred, but checks are acceptable. Please make out any checks to Alex Howe, our club Treasurer. Please give us an advanced notice if you will need an I-9 form.

The current field cap is 16 teams, but that may change based on space and staffing logistics. There is no cap on the number of teams from any one school. Each team may only have a maximum of six players on it, so if you would like to register more than six players, you must register an additional team.

JBB IV Registration: [School Name]

Please include the following information in your registration email:

• Your school’s name

• The number of teams you plan to bring

• The best email contact for your teams

• The best day-of-tournament phone number to contact your teams

If any of the following applies, please include it in the email:

• The number of staffers you are bringing and the best email contact for each of them

• The number of functional buzzer sets you will be bringing

• Whether you are eligible for the travel discount

The registration deadline is February 10th and if you must drop from the tournament, please let us know as soon as possible.

We're pleased to announce that JBB IV will be a qualifier tournament for the Partnership for Academic Competition Excellence's National Scholastic Competition. This means that schools finishing in the top 10% at this tournament will be qualified to register for the 2020 PACE NSC.
